Good Morning America and The Today Show have been locked in a ratings battle for years. The NBC morning program finally overtook the ABC show for the top spot after GMA dominated the ratings for over a decade. A popular anchor on the ABC show has apparently jumped ship and joined Today in a new role. Keep reading for all the details.
GMA Anchor Jumps Ship After 13 Years, Joins Today Show In New Role
Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan are the faces GMA viewers want to see. The ABC news show has several other familiar faces, including Ginger Zee and Lara Spencer. But there’s one former contributor who hasn’t been on the show in 2024.

Dr. Jennifer Ashton was a staple on GMA for 13 years as the show’s chief medical correspondent. She left the show two years ago to focus on her wellness company Ajenda. “My coworkers have become more than friends; they’ve become family and have seen me through the biggest professional moments of my life. I feel fortunate to have worked with the best in the business,” she said at the time of her departure.
Dr. Jen resurfaced on The Today Show in early October. Now, she’s made a second appearance on October 28, 2026. The U.S. Sun reported that there hasn’t been an official announcement if the health expert will be a full-time contributor.

She took health questions from viewers during the segment with Sheinelle Jones.
Dr. Jen Shares Advice On Weight Loss Drugs
Dr. Jen Ashton is still heavily focused on the Ajenda wellness company. She recently launched the Dear Dr. Jen podcast as an extension of the company. The board-certified OB-GYN took several questions during the Today Show segment.
She shared advice on weight loss drugs. “So when you get to your maintenance goal range, whatever that is for a different person, that’s when you really want to individualize your management protocol,” she said about the popular GLP-1 weight loss drug. Management protocols could include micro-dosing or spacing out the usage.
One viewer wanted to know if it was safe to use GLP-1 while pregnant. “It should be discontinued two months before trying to get pregnant, and it’s not recommended in breastfeeding,” the doctor said.
At the end of the segment, she told viewers, “I’m always on call for you!” Does that mean she’ll be a regular contributor on NBC’s morning program? We’ll have to tune in to find out, but you can always seek out her advice on her podcast.
