‘GMA’ Announces Weekend Changes, New Role For Rachel Scott

- Advertisment -

ABC News has recently announced big changes to Good Morning America‘s weekend lineup. This includes a new role for Rachel Scott. One of her co-stars has also weighed in on the story. However, she’s not the only figure with a new role.

Rachel Scott Previously Joined ABC News Back In 2016

Scott is known for her work with ABC News, serving as a senior political correspondent for the network. In 2016, she was hired as a production associate for ABC News Live.

Recently, a new role was announced for Scott on Good Morning America. This comes out as the program’s weekend shows are set to undergo more changes starting this month.

According to ABC News, Rachel Scott and Rhiannon Ally will join the program as co-anchors. Scott will take the Saturday desk with Whit Johnson. Meanwhile, Ally will join Gio Benitez on Sundays.

In addition, Johnson is expected to continue in his role as a Saturday anchor on World News Tonight. He has held this position since 2021.

With this expanded lineup, the anchors will also have new responsibilities beyond Good Morning America. Scott, Johnson, Ally, and Benitez will alternate as anchors for ABC News Live Weekend, which starts at 10 AM ET on Saturday and Sunday mornings. This program can be streamed through Disney+, Hulu, and the ABC News app.

Good Morning America‘s Weekend Lineup Is Also Getting A New Weather Personality

Leslie Lopez will also be joining the weekend broadcast as its meteorologist. She previously joined the network back in April, having previously worked at the Los Angeles-based station KABC-TV, where she delivered early morning weather forecasts. She will be succeeding Somara Theodore, who in turn will transition to weekday weather coverage for ABC News Live.

In a statement, Good Morning America senior executive producer Simone Swink shared, “We know weekend mornings are precious to our audience, and we could not be more excited to have Whit, Rachel, Gio and Rhiannon as our new weekend team, along with Leslie, to help our viewers make the most of their Saturdays and Sundays.”

Viewers have seen Good Morning America Weekend as part of the network since 1993. With these current changes, the format is expected to allow these anchors to appear more frequently. As Swink noted, “Our new format will allow this team to show up more on our weekday broadcasts, too.”

Speaking with People. Johnson also shared excitement over the changes. He shared, “As I enter my ninth year as a GMA weekend co-anchor, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity — and especially excited to launch Saturdays with my good friend Rachel Scott.”

“Viewers already know Rachel as a tough, dynamic, and extraordinarily talented political journalist. But I’m truly excited for them to also see more of the Rachel we know behind the scenes — kind, warm, authentic and very funny. It’s the perfect recipe to start your weekend mornings.”
