Laura Wright has been a mainstay on General Hospital as Carly for over 20 years. The actress recently wrapped up her summer break, and fans have been wondering about her status with the show, especially after Chris McKenna‘s departure as Jack Brennan.
Wright reposted a photo of herself and costar Maurice Benard and wrote on X, “My Buddy !!!!” A fan commented, “Can I just say if you ever leave General Hospital as Carly I will stop watching the show. I honestly have loved you and think you are the best person to play Carly.”
The Daytime Emmy winner replied directly to the fan, “I’m not going anywhere… just signed a new contract !!!”

On August 2, Wright shared a selfie of herself and captioned it, “Fresh color thanks to @andrea_peterman_ Ready to head back to Port Charles!!! Let the fun begin.” She had just returned from a trip to Lake Tahoe she took with her longtime love, Wes Ramsey.
After two decades of playing the beloved Port Charles character, Wright is never afraid to embrace uncharted territory with Carly. “I work really hard at not ever saying, ‘Oh, she would never do that,’” Wright told TV Insider in 2025. “I also pride myself on being one of the people that say, ‘The story that you tell me can’t be played? Hand that story to me,’ because I believe every story can be played. The reason why it can’t be done is the story! Carly would not turn on Sonny or Jason or hurt her kids, but other than that, there are some interesting stories to be told if we stop saying, ‘My character would never.’”
Wright is the fifth actress to play the role of Carly. Sarah Brown originated the role in 1996 before Tamara Braun joined the show in 2001. After Shayne Lamas and Jennifer Bransford had brief stints, Wright stepped into the role in 2005. Based on her latest message, she’s not going anywhere.
