Jeopardy! fans have debated whether or not they like the Masters version, and many of them agree that they all like this one thing. Season 4 of the tournament is set to kick off on Tuesday, August 25.
“Why do y’all like Jeopardy! Masters? (Since I don’t),” a Reddit user asked. “I want to hear from you guys on why you guys like this tournament and what makes it so special. To me, I hate this tournament, and it’s because it doesn’t do anything new. They do it way too many times. These are the same people we’ve seen over and over again. I have absolutely no love for it whatsoever. However, I want to see why y’all think this is so appealing.”
While some game show fans said that they like to see the best in the world do the hardest thing, others said that they watch for the trivia, just like any other version of Jeopardy!. “I love regular Jeopardy!, but it’s awesome to see the best of the best play the extra hard boards because they really are on a whole other level,” one said.
“I watch Jeopardy! mostly to play along. The trivia is the fun part, not the people. Jeopardy! Masters is just more trivia,” one fan said. “I’ll admit it’s not as good as normal Jeopardy! It doesn’t have the same tension. There’s no real tension at all! I think the Masters Tournament has harder questions as well, and that’s fun too.”
“I like seeing the best of the best play, BUT I’ll agree with you that it’s too often right now,” another said.
“The same reason if you are a football fan that postseason is so much more entertaining than regular season. It’s just fun to watch the best of the best compete. Also, it’s nice and humbling as a casual trivia enjoyer and avid Jeopardy watcher to see a whole bunch of clues I couldn’t answer in a million years, lol,” another commented.
“The trivia is the star of the show for me, and I especially like Masters this year because it will be on during the main show’s six weeks of reruns. I enjoy playing along with 61 clues nearly every weekday, and I feel the same even when I’m not especially interested in any of the three players onstage (which happens only once in a blue moon, and doesn’t apply for me in this tournament). I actually do prefer the regular shows, but for me, Masters beats many other ways to spend an hour!” a Reddit user said.
“Like others said, it’s fun watching people who are really good at something do that thing. Bonus points if it’s a thing you already like, like Jeopardy!,” another fan commented.
This year, the tournament has been shortened to two weeks. Yogesh Raut, Juveria Zaheer, Victoria Groce, Paolo Pasco, Andrew He, and Long Nguyen will all compete.
