Gaffney Medical Center without director Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson)? Unthinkable! But it’s possible when Chicago Med Season 12‘s action begins on Wednesday, October 7. A few months have passed since board member Miranda Lewis (Orlagh Cassidy) came for Goodwin after she allegedly leaked a doctor’s personal psychiatric files. Can the good director save her job?
“We don’t know what the hospital would do without Goodwin, what that would look like. We also don’t know what’s true and not in terms of what was leaked, how it was leaked, all of that kind of stuff. We also think that we know the reason it was leaked, but maybe we don’t,” says Jessy Schram, who plays Dr. Hannah Asher, in the video interview above.
She adds, “Was this a betrayal on Goodwin’s part to the hospital or not? I think because Goodwin has fought so hard for everybody in that hospital, I could definitely say that the doctors and nurses are clearly 100 — most of us are clearly 100% behind her. So she has support on her side, but it’ll definitely be a journey to see how she handles this and her reasons why.”

The premiere also brings Hannah back to the ED to decide if she’s ready to return to work after maternity leave; she and Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) have a child together.
“She does get wrangled into helping with a case at the hospital, which ultimately helps her make the decision as to whether or not she’s ready to come back now that she is a mom and has had a change of pace,” Schram previews. “And coming back to the first responder life of seeing the best and the worst of humanity, I think changes when you now have a newborn in your life and you’re adjusting to the world around you.”
As for Hannah and Archer’s personal relationship, he’s confessed his love. So, what’s next? The coparents “are both definitely in the same position right now in this is new. We’re dealing with sleepless nights, we’re dealing with learning about, Hannah’s trying to figure out what it looks like while she’s not at work, he’s working the whole time. So they’re definitely in support of each other and they’re in a deep partnership right now,” is all Schram teases. “I think it’ll be interesting to see how deep that partnership goes and what avenue we take.”
