Jimmy Fallon unleashed a flurry of old-age jokes at Joe Biden‘s expense on Wednesday night (July 15) as he touched on the former president’s upcoming memoir.
“Former president Joe Biden just announced that he’s written a book about his presidency that’s coming out in November,” Fallon said in his opening monologue on Wednesday’s The Tonight Show. “The book was written by a ghostwriter… Joe Biden.”
“It’s the second book Biden has written; the first one was The Odyssey,” he continued, referencing Homer’s Ancient Greek epic.
Fallon added, “The book is about what Biden remembers from his presidency, so it’s three pages. It’s kind of a strange book because towards the end, it starts being written by Kamala Harris.”
Biden, who will turn 84 in November, dropped out of the 2024 presidential election late in the campaign amid mounting pressure over his health and cognitive abilities. He was replaced by former Vice President Kamala Harris, who later lost to Donald Trump.
“I’ve written a book about my time as President. It’s called PROMISE ME, AMERICA. It’s coming out November 17th and is available for preorder now,” Biden wrote on X on Wednesday.

In an accompanying video, the former president said, “Promise Me, America is about the challenges we faced as a nation. It’s about the decisions I made and why I made them. Most of all, it’s about my faith in the promise of America.”
The topics covered include “leading the country through COVID,” “rebuilding our economy,” and “restoring our democracy after the attack on January 6th.”
Biden also provided an update on his cancer treatment; last May, he revealed he’d been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
“I’ve been spending a lot of time with my family,” he shared. “I’ve been dealing with a cancer diagnosis, and I’ve been getting treatment, and it’s been going really well. I want to thank all those who have offered their prayers and their support and well-wishes. It’s meant the world to me and to Jill.”
