  • Joan Cusack made her first major red carpet appearance in 11 years at the London premiere of Toy Story 5.
  • She has largely stepped away from Hollywood events to focus on her family life in Chicago.

The toys are back in town, and with them comes a familiar face audiences have not seen on a red carpet in more than a decade.

Joan Cusack made a rare public appearance at the premiere of Toy Story 5, marking her first major red carpet event in 11 years as she reunited with the beloved franchise that helped make her a fan favorite across generations.

On Thursday, May 28, at the London premiere of Toy Story 5, the Working Girl star, who voices Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl, reunited with fellow film stars Tom Hanks, who voices Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Greta Lee as Lilypad, and Tony Hale as Forky, among others. Joan Cusack, the sister of fellow actor John Cusack, rose to fame in the 1980s and became known for her scene-stealing comedic performances. She earned Academy Award nominations for supporting actress for her roles as Aqua Net-loving Cyn in Working Girl and as jilted Emily in In & Out, before going on to star in fan favorite roles, such as unhinged nanny Debbie in Addams Family Values and uptight principal Ms. Mullins in School of Rock. She later earned a Primetime Emmy Award for her performance on Showtime’s hit comedy-drama Shameless.

Cusack attended the event with her husband, Richard Burke.

According to the actress, Joan Cusack largely stepped away from the spotlight and stopped attending premieres to focus on her family, who reside in Chicago. “As my kids would say, ‘Chicago is awesome!’ It has rich culture and history, as well as some of the best museums, architecture, and restaurants in the world,” said Cusack to The Huffington Post. “Plus, it prevents our family life from revolving around TV and the movies. In L.A., it’s easy to get caught up in what you look like or how much money you have, and those aren’t values I want my kids to adopt.”
