John Travolta went from teen idol in Welcome Back, Kotter to one of the most well-respected actors of our generation. His career stalled a bit after the success of Grease. However, he made a stunning comeback in 1994’s cult classic, Pulp Fiction. He stepped back from acting after several family tragedies. His return at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year was widely panned, but not because of his movie. His new look was the talk of the town. Keep reading to find out more about the emotional career news he just shared with fans.
John Travolta’s Shocking New Look Dominates Cannes
John Travolta released a children’s book in 1997 about a young boy’s first flight. The book was turned into a movie. Propeller One-Way Night Coach debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Not only did the actor star in the movie alongside his daughter, Ella Bleu, he also directed it. But his directorial debut was overshadowed by his bold new look.

The actor made headlines several years ago for embracing his bald look after years of having luscious black hair. John Travolta showed up at Cannes sporting a white beret and glasses. The look received a lot of negative attention. However, he doubled down by wearing a different shade beret at nearly every interview about the film. He said it was the look of a movie director.
John Travolta Opens Up About Staying Positive After Losing Wife & Son
John Travolta and actress Kelly Preston tied the knot in 1991. They had a beautiful marriage and three children. But the family suffered a horrible tragedy in 2009 when their autistic son, Jett, was fatally injured while suffering a seizure while on a family vacation.
The loss was tough on the family but they weathered through together. Sadly, John Travolta lost his beloved wife in 2020 after a battle with breast cancer. He said in an interview that his wife and son were the inspiration behind his new movie.

He opened about how he was able to remain positive despite the double tragedies. “I’m not made to remain absorbed in the darkness. I can look at the darkness, but I don’t choose to die in that darkness,” he said.
Beloved Hollywood Legend Shares Huge, Emotional Career News
Taking the leap into directing is something a lot of actors are doing in the last few years. Sometimes it can be successful, but other times, it’s an epic failure. After debuting at Cannes, Propeller One-Way Night Coach skipped the theaters and went straight to Apple+.
John Travolta took to Instagram this week to share huge news. He got emotional when he revealed that the movie was number one on the streaming service.
“I’m very excited to say this is day seven of being No. 1 on Apple TV all around the world,” he said. The actor held back tears as he thanked his fans. “I want to thank each and every one of you in all the countries around the world for being so supportive, it’s really because of you that it’s number one so thank you, thank you, I love you very much.”
