Kate Winslet’s Door From ‘Titanic’ Sells At Auction For Huge Price

TV Shows

No one who has ever seen the movie Titanic could ever forget the gut-wrenching scene of Rose, portrayed by Kate Winslet, floating on the door of the icy waters. The now-infamous door was recently part of an auction. The Heritage Auctions’ Treasures held an event at Planet Hollywood. That is where the door Kate Winslet made famous was sold.

The Titanic Controversy

The movie Titanic was not without controversy. Surprisingly, people did not sit around debating whether or not the movie starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio was historically correct or not. Instead, fans of the movie debated as to whether or not Jack, the love interest of Rose, could have survived the icy waters on the door.

Even though Titanic was released over two decades ago, fans are still debating as to whether or not Jack had to die. This topic was also a debate during the filming of the movie. The director, James Cameron, weighed in on this endless debate. He believed Jack had to die in order to remain true to his character.

The Door Kate Winslet Made Famous

The door, which may or may not have had room for the Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio characters, was sold by Heritage Auctions’ Treasures. It sold for $718,750. The door turned out to be the item which sold for the largest amount of money at Planet Hollywood that day.

At the time of publication, the buyer of the Kate Winslet door was unknown. It was also unknown if the person who made the purchase was a fan of Titanic or just a movie memorabilia collector.

Other Items Sold At The Auction

The Kate Winslet door was not the only piece of Titanic memorabilia sold. The pale pink and purple dress Kate Winslet wore was also sold. This is the dress the superstar actress wore during most of the scenes where the Titanic was sinking. It sold for $125,000, much less than the door.

The ax Jack Nicholson used in The Shining was sold during the Heritage Auctions’ Treasure event. Like the dress Kate Winslet wore in Titanic, it also sold for $125,000.  The bullwhip from Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom, used by Harrison Ford, was sold for $525,000. The shaving cream can from Jurassic Park was also sold along with Bill Murray’s bowling ball from the movie Kingpin.

Tell us what you think. Was the price too high for the door Kate Winslet made famous in Titanic? And, of course, we want to know if you think Jack had to die! Sound off in the comment section below.
