Kelly’s Absence Prompts Questions Of Overhaul
Up until recently, fans weren’t sure that Kelly Ripa was even going to be part of Live with Kelly and Mark anymore. The iconic long-time host of the show was mysteriously absent, and Mark didn’t give viewers much to go off with his explanations.
It all started with a little joke about winning the lottery. Ahead of last week’s Powerball draw, Kelly Ripa joked that she was leaving and never coming back because she planned to win the lottery. Mark laughed along with her, and the audience cheered. Wednesday night, the Powerball winning ticket was drawn in California. Then on Thursday and Friday, Kelly was conspicuously absent. This led some fans to jokingly suggest that Kelly had struck it rich and fled to the South of France.
But as Thursday turned into Friday, fans really started to worry that the titular host was gone for good. Mark said that his wife was out “on assignment,” but provided precious little information. Maria Menounos filled in for the missing star host.
Live Host Kelly Ripa Reveals Exciting Changes Ahead For Future Episodes Of The Show
However, Kelly Ripa returned to her seat at the desk this week and all appears to be well. In fact, things are better than well; they’re great. Because Live with Kelly and Mark has an exciting future ahead.
On Monday, Kelly opened the show by joking that she and Mark were still there “from yesterday.” She told the audience, “After the show, we shot our new show opener, for the new season.” Offstage, executive producer Michael Gelman yelled, “The new Kelly and Mark.” Mark then playfully bragged, “We’ve got drones, we have glam bots, we have green screens, we had a 360-degree camera.”
He then asked Michael when viewers can expect to see all the new bells and whistles. Michael responded that the new show will drop on September 5th. Kelly talked about filming the previous show opener with Ryan Seacrest, and then the hosts moved on. But they definitely buried the lede by dropping hints of next season’s glamor without going into too much detail.
So there you have it. A sparkly new Live with Kelly and Mark lands on ABC on September 5th.
