  • Jared “J.Paul” Foster is one of the co-hosts of the new HGTV series Worst Yard on the Block.
  • The show follows design duos as they transform neglected yards into stunning outdoor spaces.

Music fans may recognize one of HGTV‘s newest stars.

Worst Yard on the Block premieres with back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, July 15. The 12-episode debut season will follow “two teams of curb appeal aficionados will search out the most unsightly yards in the country, meet the overwhelmed homeowners and perform miraculous outdoor makeovers in just a matter of days,” per the show’s official description.

“Dynamic outdoor design duos Tucker Kincaid and Jared ‘J.Paul’ Foster and Blake Hawthorn and Margo Fairchild will make house calls to neighborhood eyesores with one mission: create manicured masterpieces out of utter despair,” the synopsis continues. “From an overgrown meadow with sprawling feral cats to a formerly abandoned home with thousands of dollars in fines, these landscaping experts will transform lawns and lives by injecting new life into out-of-control outdoor spaces.”

One member of the show’s design teams, Foster, is no stranger to the entertainment industry. Foster is an accomplished singer and musician, having previously toured with Lecrae and earned a Grammy nomination for his work on the song “All I Need Is You.”

In an October 2024 interview with VoyageATL, Foster said the Grammy nomination unexpectedly served as the “catalyst” for his career pivot to construction. “Enter the world of woodworking, where I honed my skills and acquired knowledge from building military airplanes like the Gulf Stream 4&5, the legendary Black Hawk Helicopter, the mighty C17, the stealthy Global Hawk spy plane, and even various Boeing aircraft,” he shared. “These experiences transformed me into one of the most innovative and imaginative builders in Atlanta, the city where creativity thrives.”

Throughout his construction career, Foster has completed projects for celebrities such as T.I. and Tiny Harris, T-Pain, and Lou Williams. “So, get ready to be enthralled as Jared Foster, a.k.a. J Paul the Carpenter, takes center stage,” he stated. “From the melodies of music to the symphony of woodworking, my journey continues to unfold, leaving a trail of awe-inspiring creations in its wake.”

He celebrated his role on Worst Yard on the Block in a June 11 Instagram post, writing, “I’m grateful for every client who trusted me, every brand that gave me an opportunity, every friend who shared my work, and every person who’s followed along on this journey. This moment is exciting, but it’s also humbling because I know how many people have played a part in getting me here. Thank you for being part of the journey. We’re just getting started.”

Ahead of the show’s premiere, Foster shared a funny video of himself and Kincaid having a car jam session while filming the series. “If you know us from building and landscaping, this side of us might surprise you,” he captioned the Instagram clip. “We spend a lot of time designing outdoor spaces, building projects, and solving problems together. But when the cameras aren’t rolling, it’s long drives, good music, and a lot of laughs. On Worst Yard on the Block, you’ll see the work. This is the part you don’t always get to see.”

He continued, “If you’re new here, welcome. I’m Jared — a builder, designer, and musician who believes great spaces bring people together. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’ll watch tonight and stick around for what’s next.”
