Meghan McCain has been in the public eye for a number of reasons, from her father’s presidential campaign to her time on The View. Like a number of public figures, she has often seen “herself” on the long-running sketch comedy series, Saturday Night Live. Recently, she weighed in on these parodies, with another figure who has seen themselves impersonated in a similar way.
Meghan McCain Recently Discussed Saturday Night Live On Her Citizen McCain Podcast
Meghan is the daughter of the late U.S. Senator John McCain. She initially gained national attention during her father’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Following this, Meghan became known for her work with a number of outlets, from co-hosting The View from 2017 to 2021 to co-hosting Fox News’ Outnumbered. She also hosts the podcast, Citizen McCain.
During a recent episode of her podcast series, Meghan invited Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Both women had a special connection: they were both portrayed by Aidy Bryant on SNL. At the time, the hostess admitted that this connection was the “one thing I’ve always wanted to ask” President Donald Trump’s former press secretary.
Looking at her own portrayal, Meghan expressed, “I found her interpretation of both of us to be cruel. You see how Saturday Night Live impersonates Democrat women compared to conservative women… I didn’t find it funny. I can laugh at myself. I didn’t find her impersonation funny.”
Sarah Huckabee Sanders Shared Another Figure’s Reaction To The Story
Bryant appeared as McCain three times between 2018 and 2019. Two of the skits were based on Meghan’s time on The View. During these parodies, “Meghan” was often portrayed as being more interested in The Masked Singer than with current events.
For contrast, Bryant portrayed Huckabee Sanders at least 10 times during her two-year time within the first Trump administration. For her part, Huckabee Sanders thought her portrayal was “mean-spirited.”
Huckabee Sanders continued, “You know, Saturday Night Live used to be funny and now it’s just mean. I remember the days of, like, actually looking forward to watching an episode of that show because it had these laugh-out-loud skits that kind of poked fun at everybody, but really brought the humorous side and were very lighthearted and enjoyable. And now it is so pointed, so political and so angry that it’s not funny anymore.”
In addition, Huckabee Sanders revealed that she heard from fellow press secretary Sean Spicer after Melissa McCarthy impersonated him on the show. She shared, “He’ll probably be mad at me for sharing this.”
Huckabee Sanders continued, “Spicer called to check in. He’s like, ‘So, how we doing?’ And I was like, ‘You know, I’m good. I wish they could have found somebody else to play me.’ And he goes, ‘Well, at least you had somebody of the correct sex.’ And I was like, ‘Fair enough. You win… It was way worse for you. I’ll give you that.’ And so we kind of laughed at it.”
