What To Know

  • A volunteer group in Mexico has expanded its search for missing Nancy Guthrie in two new locations.
  • Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today’s Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1.
  • The Pima County Sheriff’s Department states the investigation remains active and they are monitoring credible leads.

A volunteer search group in Mexico has launched a follow-up search almost a week after receiving an anonymous tip about missing Nancy Guthrie‘s whereabouts.

Buscando Corazones Nogales, a volunteer group in Mexico that searches for missing people, told TMZ that it is returning to the field to expand its search. The group is focusing on two new locations near Nogales, a border city of Nancy’s hometown of Tucson, Arizona. The new locations were described as “vast” and “difficult to cover.”

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today‘s Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1, when police believe she was abducted from her home in Tucson. Investigators have released doorbell camera footage of a masked suspect and sent DNA for testing at the FBI lab in Quantico, but no suspects have been named.

Last week, the leader of Buscando Corazones Nogales, Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, stated that the group received an anonymous call informing them that Nancy had been buried in an unmarked grave in the Mariposa area. The position is located west of Nogales and near the border strip with Arizona.

While the search uncovered 25 unmarked graves, none were connected to Nancy, and no other evidence was found. However, the volunteer group remains committed to its search in the hopes of finding answers.

On Thursday (June 11), the Pima County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement about the volunteer search, writing, “We are aware of the reports regarding an anonymous tip related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation that was provided to a group in Mexico. At this time, we have not been contacted by the Mexican authorities.”

The statement went on to read: “The investigation remains active and ongoing, and we will continue to follow up on any credible information.”
