The party’s just begun for the new generation of Cheetah Girls fans. The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen is an upcoming Disney Channel and Disney+ movie that is set to star Raven-Symoné, Adrienne Bailon, and Sabrina Bryan in their original roles while raising the next generation.
Raven-Symoné will return as Galleria and will executive produce the film alongside Debra Martin Chase, who produced the first three Cheetah Girls films. Bailon, who serves as a co-producer, returns as Chanel, while Bryan is set to make a special appearance as Dorinda. Keily Williams, who played Aqua, the fourth Cheetah Girl, is not expected to come back.
Lynn Whitfield and Lori Alter are set to reprise their roles as Galleria and Chanel’s mothers, Dorothea and Juanita, respectively. Sophia Bush is set to appear in a supporting role as Jennifré. The upcoming musical film is set to go into production this month in South Africa. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
The new generation of Cheetah Girls includes Leah Sava’ Jeffries as Galleria’s daughter Faith, Carmen Sanchez as Chanel’s sister Dior, Kaileen Chang as Ruby, and Sophie Lennon as Brooklyn. Newcomer Kamogelo Ramashala, a local South African actor, will play Kendi.
The story follows Galleria and Chanel, alongside Faith and her three friends, as they travel to Africa to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary. Along the way, the four teen girls test their friendship and find their voice. With the help of their moms, they discover the true Cheetah spirit as they save the sanctuary and become the new Cheetah Girls.
“The Cheetah Girls has always been about friendship, music, and empowering young people to use their voice,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, said in a press release. “That spirit connected deeply with a generation of fans, and it still resonates today. Bringing this dynamic new group of young stars to the franchise allows us to continue that legacy for a new era of kids and families.”
Raven-Symoné released a video announcement on her social media on July 8. “POV: Strutting to the set of The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen,” she captioned it. The actress filmed herself walking in various parts of the set with the iconic song “Strut” playing in the background.
Jeffries, Sanchez, Change, and Lennon also promoted the movie in a video, where they wore matching pink hoodies with the words “The Cheetah Girls” on the back of them. They also danced to “Strut” and walked to the cameras, striking various poses.
The movies in the franchise — The Cheetah Girls, The Cheetah Girls 2, and The Cheetah Girls: One World — are all available to stream on Disney+.
