Former Detroit Lions’ player Jessie Lemonier has died. The announcement came from his agent, and the news has an even more tragic issue at hand. More so, the former NFL player was about to become a father.

Here is what we know about Jessie Lemonier and his tragic death.

Jessie Lemonier has died. The former NFL player who was most recently playing in the USFL was 25. As of now, the cause of death remains unknown. His agent revealed the news and some more tragic information about his passing. Drew Smith said Jessie was expecting his first child with his girlfriend when he died.

Jessie spent the 2020 season with the San Diego Chargers after they signed him as a free agent out of college. “Gone too soon,” the Chargers posted on their Twitter page. “Our hearts are with Jessie’s family, friends, and loved ones.”

He left the Chargers after that one season and went on to play for the Detroit Lions in 2021. Detroit also posted a tribute on Twitter. “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of former Detroit Lion Jessie Lemonier,” the team wrote on their Twitter page. “Jessie was a model teammate and wonderful young man who is gone far too soon.”

Dwayne Johnson’s rebooted XFL drafted him last November, but he chose to instead play in the USFL. He signed with Houston to play in the upcoming season, but they traded him to Birmingham.

Who was Jessie Lemonier?

Jessie Lemonier was born in Hialeah, Florida, in January 1997. He played football at Hialeah High School before graduating and enrolling at Ventura College in California, where he stayed for one year before moving on to Liberty. It was with Liberty that he became a star college football player.

In 2019, he led Liberty to their first-ever bowl game victory. Jessie won the MVP honors at that time. The college honored Jessie at a basketball game last night.

No NFL team drafted Jessie out of college, but he signed with the San Diego Chargers. He appeared in six games and made two tackles. In 2021, he signed with the Detroit Lions. He appeared in seven games and finished with 15 total tackles and 1.5 sacks. After leaving Detroit. the Arizona Cardinals signed him but he never played a snap for them.

The Arlington Renegades in Dwayne Johnson’s XFL drafted him in the 2023 XFL Draft. Instead of playing in the rebooted league, Jessie decided to move on to the USFL, another alternative football league. He signed with the Houston Gamblers. They traded him to the Birmingham Stallions, who are the defending champions. However, he never had a chance to play there before his death.
