All Creatures Great and Small has been renewed for Seasons 7 and 8, and the animals being treated at Skeldale House are getting more exotic in Season 7 after the war has ended. All Creatures star Nicholas Ralph was joined by the show’s animal handler, Jill Clark, and executive producer Sharon Moran in TV Insider’s 2026 ATX TV Festival studio to talk about the series, which will wrap filming on Season 7 soon.

Ralph tells us in the video interview above that he’s very pleased with how Season 6 and the Christmas special turned out. Ralph, Moran, and Clark also discuss the sad storyline from the Season 6 Christmas special about a goat that had to be put down, revealing the real-life story behind it. With Season 7 just about done filming, Ralph also shares a bit about what to expect from James Herriot in the new episodes.

“We see our characters moving on from the war, but still very much rationing in effect,” at the end of Season 6, Ralph shares. “But for James [in Season 7], he’s got little Jimmy and little Rosie now. Jimmy’s starting to come on veterinary calls with him. Rosie is just becoming more adorable, and he’s a partner at the practice. That’s a huge responsibility as well.”

“Siegfried [Samuel West] was a little tricky last year in series six, but I think hopefully he’s returned a bit more level and a bit more grounded,” Ralph continues. “But yeah, more of the same, trying to do his best for his young family and also for the practice.”

All Creatures Great and Small is based on the semi-autobiographical novels by James Herriot, the pen name of author James Alfred “Alf” Wight. Moran shares how they work with his family members to pull from the books and real-life experiences when creating the plot of each season. Clark also shares what it’s like to work with the animals on set.

Before All Creatures returns, Ralph will be seen in the final season of Grantchester this July. He can also be seen in Outlander Season 7, which he discusses above. Could the Scottish actor appear in Outlander: Blood of My Blood next, given his time-traveling Outlander role? Stranger things have happened!
