Former HGTV star Nicole Curtis has set the record straight following a brief social media hiatus, telling the world, “I’ve been doing whatever I want.”
Curtis made headlines earlier this year after footage leaked of her using a racial slur while working on renovations. HGTV subsequently canceled her long-running show Rehab Addict. While Curtis had been keeping fans up to date on her projects on social media, she hadn’t shared a new update since June 7.
However, she returned on Tuesday (July 14), posting a photo of herself sleeping on a plane and writing, “I’ve been doing whatever I want, and I just woke up halfway across the world (had to post because they said I came back to social media).”
“Commuting cross-country to produce every single aspect of a #1 show while doing the work on camera and the build while raising a family ….whole lot of miles stacked up,” she added. “Never missed a school event, a game or a holiday because of something called turn and burn.”
She continued, “Any guesses where I’m headed now? And don’t worry, I got the houses ready to show you -I just can’t have my guys working during a heat advisory (I would -as you know, but I’m a different breed)… Before you ask. —cbd balm on my face.”
Curtis previously issued an apology after the footage of her using a racial slur leaked online. “I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone,” she told TMZ at the time.
She added, “I’m grateful for the 15-year journey we’ve shared. It’s been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn’t on my career. My focus, at this moment is rightfully on my relationships, and my community — the people who truly know my character and where my heart is.”
Curtis later claimed in a February 17 Instagram post that the footage was leaked by “someone personal” after she didn’t pay them the money they demanded.
In an April 16 email newsletter, Curtis teased new content, revealing, “We dug up my old YouTube channel and you can subscribe there as my guys have things in motion. (and by things, I mean house episodes, Behind the scenes and anything else they conjure up from my days of really being on a job site as I have been for 30 + years -not just to pretend on TV).”
