Paramount Plus hasn’t aired any episode of the first season of the Halo series and the platform is already gearing up for Season 2.

The renewal comes even though Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Season 1 showrunners have dropped out and already announced it’s not coming back.

In their place, David Wiener, an executive producer from Brave New WorldHomecoming, and Fear the Walking Dead, has been tapped to serve as showrunner for season 2.

Paramount Renews Halo Season 2 Before Season 1 Launches

Halo is an expansive, world-building opportunity for Paramount Plus, and we’re thrilled to give fans a second season to look forward to before we launch the series next month,” Tanya Giles, chief programming officer at the streamer, said in a statement explaining why they’ve already renewed the series.

Halo will deliver a thrill ride for fans of the game and non-gamers alike,” she added. “As it ties together stunning visuals with a deeper look at the personal stories behind these iconic characters. Set within an epic battle for the future of humanity.”

The announcement of the support for the upcoming series comes amid a flurry of big decisions by Paramount. The company also announced it’s going all-in on Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan.

Not only will the streamer offer more content based on 1883, but it’s greenlighted another spinoff titled 1932. While there isn’t a great deal known about the new spinoff, it’s likely going to be yet another generation of the Dutton clan trying to find their way in the ranching world.

1883 depicts the descendants of the Yellowstone family first heading to their eventual homestead.

The two announcements on the same day also underline how diverse the content that is coming to Paramount Plus can be. The Dutton clan’s saga is based in reality.

The upcoming sci-fi series is based on a video game that supposedly takes place in the distant future. In this future, the earth is engaged in an intergalactic war with an alien army of cultists.

Master Chief Gets A Second Season Already

Pablo Schreiber stars in Halo as the Master Chief. He is a genetically altered super-soldier decked out in green mech armor. The Master Chief leads the fight against the alien collective known as the Covenant.

Trailers for the show have revealed a few aspects of the video game franchise being adapted for the live-action series. That includes the Master Chief’s fellow Spartan soldiers. The alien adversaries popular in the series are also seen. Finally, the A.I. known as Cortana (voiced by the games’ actress Jen Taylor) will be front and center.

Paramount Plus is one of the newest streaming services to hit the market. Despite this, the platform hasn’t been afraid to spend. Now it’s making it clear it’s supporting the long-awaited series.
