Here is everything we know so far about the new drama.
When will The Detection Club premiere?
The Detection Club is a 10-part mystery drama that just kicked off production. While an exact premiere date is not yet set, the series is expected to premiere in 2027.
What is The Detection Club about?
Created for television by Kit Lambert from an original idea by acclaimed author Simon Brett, the pre-World War II drama centers on a group of legendary crime writers who gather at a secret London location to sharpen their mystery-solving skills. But fiction soon becomes reality when a mysterious invitation draws them into their first real murder case, forcing the famous writers to put their talents to the test as they tackle a series of mysteries.

According to the logline, “their amateur sleuthing brings them into the path of D.I. Greenway, an out-of-his-depth young police detective whose determination to prove himself is both helped and hindered by our writers’ extraordinary instincts.”
Who stars in The Detection Club?
The Detection Club stars Miles Jupp as G.K. Chesterton, Bryony Hannah as Agatha Christie, Cara Theobold as Dorothy L. Sayers, and Viraj Juneja as detective D.I. Greenway.
“G.K. Chesterton was one of the great intellects and storytellers of his age. He’s an endlessly intriguing character — as well as a pleasingly eccentric one — and so I’m delighted to be joining The Detection Club. It really ought to be lots of fun,” said Jupp.
Hannah said in a statement that stepping into Agatha Christie allowed her to better know the bestselling novelist of all time. “I knew very little about the woman behind the pen,” said Hannah. “The Detection Club gives us a chance to meet Agatha in a whole new light. I’m so looking forward to exploring her wit, intellect, and flaws with such a fab team.”
Is it based on a real group?
Yes! The Detection Club was formed in 1930 by a group of British mystery writers and still exists to this day. Club members not only helped each other with technical aspects of their own writings, but they also wrote together, with members of the club contributing one or more chapters in turn.
G.K. Chesterton was the original president from 1930, and Dorothy L. Sayers was head of the Detection Club from 1949 until 1957. She was followed by Agatha Christie, who held the post until she died in 1976.
Who is behind The Detection Club?
The series is produced by BBC Studios Drama Productions and is filmed across the West Midlands.
