‘Reading Rainbow’ Mychal Threets Shares Health Update

Mychal Threets recently worried fans with a message where he shared he would be going to a hospital. Since then, however, the Reading Rainbow star shared a further update, explaining more of the story. In addition, he had a message he wanted to impart to those going through similar issues as him.

Mychal Threets Became The New Host Of The Revived Version Of Reading Rainbow In 2025

Threets, also known as “Mychal the Librarian,” is a librarian and media personality. He became known to many for his viral videos featuring book recommendations and library stories.

Threets is also known for producing social media content for PBS and PBS Kids. Back in September, he was named the new host of Reading Rainbow, stepping into the shoes of classic series host LeVar Burton.

As previously reported, Threets recently worried fans with a cryptic message sharing that he was “not okay.” At the time, he said he was checking himself into a hospital to seek some help. A few days beforehand, he said that he was on the “struggle bookmobile.”

Since then, Threets shared an update with fans on social media. A description shared that he wanted to apologize for worrying fans, noting that he had just returned from a five-day stay in a psychiatric hospital.

As He Concluded The Post, Threets Made Sure To Thank His Fans For ‘Being You’

In a post shared on Instagram, Threets shared, “I just wanted to apologize for worrying so many people. I just got back from a five-day stay at the hospital, a five-day psychiatric hold. I haven’t been OK for what feels like a very, very long time. I am not OK, but I have hope I will get to OK. I am on the struggle bookmobile.”

Threets also expressed that things don’t simply change overnight. As he continued, “It’s gonna take a long time for me to be OK. It’s going to take a long time, but I just wanted to say thank you to the multitude of doctors, nurses, and mental health workers I saw.”

Threets then took time to thank those who helped him when he needed it most. He shared, “It’s not enough, but thank you. You saved my life. Thank you to my family and friends. Thank you to you.”

In reference to a refrain from some of his social media posts, Threets also shared, “3-6-9, it’s OK to not be fine. “We’re struggling. We’re human beings. We’re doing our best. Thank you for being you. Thank you for staying. Maybe I’ll see you at the library. I’ll see you tomorrow. I love you.”
