What To Know

  • Riley Green is a coach on Season 30 of The Voice.
  • He revealed why he can’t wear his signature cowboy hat on the show and how his chair has been personalized to accommodate it.

Riley Green is sitting in one of the big red chairs on the upcoming 30th season of The Voice, and his seat will have a personalized touch in order to hold his signature cowboy hat during the show.

The country singer appeared on Willie Geist‘s Sunday Sitdown podcast and explained that he can’t wear his hat on the show because of the height of the coaches’ chairs. However, NBC came up with a solution so that he can still keep his trusty hat nearby.

“They made me a little hat holster right there on my chair,” Green dished. “It’s right there on the side. I kind of sheath it when I sit down.”

Indeed, when NBC shared a sneak peek (below) of Season 30’s coaches (Green, Queen Latifah, Kelly Clarkson, and Adam Levine) in their chairs, Green’s cowboy hat was propped up next to him on the holster.

Green also teased that he isn’t afraid to use the hat to his advantage during the Blind Auditions. “It’s always nice to have it to pull out, too, because when a real country artist gets up there, I need to really win them over,” he admitted.

This is Green’s and Latifah’s first year as coaches on The Voice, while Levine and Clarkson are both vets and four-time champions.

Of his casting, Green said on American Country Countdown, “There were mentions that there was interest that I might be a possible candidate. We were in L.A. and I did a show at the Grammy Museum, and we did a Q&A before the show. We had a good rapport, and that got me the job.”

He noted that the show was looking for a personality like former coach Blake Shelton‘s, and said an appearance on Jimmy Fallon‘s late-night show solidified his spot. “I also did a spot on Jimmy Fallon, where I got to visit with him and teach him a duck call,” Green shared. “Those two things got me the job.”

The Voice, Season 30 Premiere, Monday, September 21, 8/7c, NBC
