Dressed in a medical gown, Oteri walked into a room to receive her last round of treatment. “Look at all that machinery,” she stated. Afterward, she got to participate in the tradition of ringing a bell to celebrate the completion of one’s cancer treatment.
“Congratulations. OK, you get to ring the bell three times,” said someone behind the camera before Oteri excitedly rang the bell. “There you go!” they added as Oteri jumped in excitement.

One fan wrote, “Congrats, Queen! I had the same cancer this year at age 45. I listened to ABBA during radiation to keep the vibes up. Wishing you excellent healing.” Another said, “My mother had the same cancer. She was 49 she too beat it and will now be 82 in December.” Someone else shared, “You are loved, Cheri. Congratulations!”
Oteri famously was a cast member on SNL for five seasons from 1995 to 2000. She has appeared in a number of memorable projects over the years, such as the Scary Movie franchise, Grimsburg, Mid-Century Modern, And Just Like That…, Happy’s Place, and more.
Oteri announced her cancer diagnosis during a June episode of Chelsea Handler‘s Dear Chelsea podcast, revealing she had ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is a non-invasive, stage 0 type of breast cancer.
On the podcast, Oteri revealed she underwent surgery and praised former first lady Jill Biden for her support through her cancer journey. “She said, ‘All right, you’re gonna get tired of me.’ And she says, ‘I’m going through this with you,’” the actress shared. “This woman, like, before my surgery, after my surgery, she just, she goes, ‘I am with you on this.’ I was blown away.”
Oteri continued, “That is a woman with a huge heart, and through everything, she’s like checking on me, and just a beautiful human being. So, I never felt so supported by my friends, my girlfriends.”
