What To Know
- Steven Weber revealed an early-season crossover between Chicago Med and Chicago Fire in the fall at a convention.
- The One Chicago lineup returns on October 7 on NBC.
One thing One Chicago does better than perhaps any other franchise is a crossover, whether it’s a big, three-show event or one character heading over to another series. We now know that one of the latter is coming up early on for Chicago Med and Chicago Fire when both (along with Chicago P.D.) return on October 7 on NBC.
The news was revealed by Steven Weber, going into his seventh season on Med, during a panel at the Flashback Weekend in Chicago over the weekend of August 1 and 2.
The crossovers are “a lot of fun,” he said at the convention. “I’m doing actually one tomorrow. We’re doing a scene on Chicago Fire tomorrow. But when we do the big mega crossovers, those are huge events, and Dick Wolf, who’s like the Wizard of Oz, we never really see him … loves them. And so now we are obligated to do them. It drives everybody insane because it’s a coordinating nightmare. Med, P.D., and Fire are three different worlds. It’s like we’re cousins, but different energies, different executives, different people. And so they’ve got to learn to interact and cooperate and get everything done in time for the ratings bonanza.”

That tease about a crossover could indicate that Weber’s Dr. Dean Archer (pictured above in the 2025 crossover with Taylor Kinney‘s Severide and Dermot Mulroney‘s Pascal) will be part of the resolution of Fire‘s cliffhanger, which saw most of 51 in some serious trouble after firefighters were caught inside and on a ladder right outside a building on fire. Perhaps one of them will be injured enough to be brought to the hospital — and Archer will be the one to either save that person’s life or have to deliver the heartbreaking news to 51 that they lost one of their own.
Meanwhile, we’ll be watching the Chicago Med Season 12 premiere to see what that kiss and confession of love means for Archer and Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram), who will be raising a baby together.
