Jeff Probst Has Been Hosting Survivor Since 2000
Viewers became hooked on Survivor when it premiered in May 2000. Watching people of all ages, races, and sexual orientations attempt to make it on a random island while forming alliances was oddly addictive. Fans tuned in every week to see what twists and turns would be next and who would walk away with one million dollars. Jeff Probst has been a staple of the series, and contestants are just as excited to see him as they are to play. That being said, after twenty-six years and 51 seasons, is his time coming to an end?
Absolutely not. Jeff does not seem to see a life just yet without the show in it. In fact, he can see Survivor lasting for the foreseeable future. Jeff Probst firmly believes in their team, so he is not worried about anything dimming their sparkle:
“I don’t see an end in sight right now. I think the format is one of the greatest formats in TV. I think we’re a good team producing it. I think we’re really good storytellers.”
He went on to add that, despite there being a plethora of reality shows out there, none are like Survivor. Therefore, that is what has kept them going and viewers invested in the stories that are being told:
“One of the hallmarks of Survivor is we’re not like any other show. And it’s deep, rich storytelling where you take conflict and you create suspense and you have tension. And then you resolve it and then you do it again.”
Not Here Forever
So, Jeff Probst will not be retiring anytime soon, and that is reassuring. It’s also great that Survivor still has longevity because fans love it. However, Jeff has made it clear that if there are another 50 seasons, he will likely pass. He does not want to be old and decrepit while hosting the series, and that makes sense. Being able to have energy in the hot sun for the competitions is what makes Survivor what it is, and Jeff Probst’s wants to keep that vibe up. Hopefully, he has another 25 seasons in him because Wednesdays just would not be the same.
