Taylor Swift Changes Her ‘Better Than Revenge’ Lyrics

TV Shows

Taylor Swift just released “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and in this album, she has changed up the lyrics to her famous song “Better Than Revenge.” Taylor actually removed a lyric about the mattress and made it something a bit classier.

So far, fans haven’t noticed any other lyric changes to the songs. Taylor re-recorded the entire album plus added a few new songs that she wrote back when she originally wrote “Speak Now,” but didn’t record at the time. There are six never-before-heard songs on the album.

Taylor Swift Changes Lyrics

Taylor Swift’s hit song “Better Than Revenge” has a new line that you have to learn now. The original lyrics say, “She’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress.” In “Better Than Revenge (Taylor’s Version)” it now says: “He was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches.” It is a very small change, but fans noticed it right away. They immediately went to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Reason Behind The Change

So far, Taylor Swift hasn’t spoken out about the change to this lyric. It is obvious that the new lyric isn’t as mean and that could be part of it. People shared that back in 2014 Taylor talked about how some people didn’t like this lyric in “Better Than Revenge.” Here is what she had to say at the time.

“I was 18 when I wrote that. That’s the age you are when you think someone can actually take your boyfriend. Then you grow up and realize no one can take someone from you if they don’t want to leave.”

Taylor Swift went to her Instagram to share with fans about the new album and her excitement about it. Here is what she had to say:

“I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness. I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing … and living to speak about it. With six extra songs I’ve sprung loose from the vault, I absolutely cannot wait to celebrate Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) with you.”
