The 1% Club fans want more gameplay and less talking. The Fox game show is known for asking a question and then eliminating contestants, but fans think it could be shorter if they cut down the interviews in between the questions.
The 1% Club has 100 contestants competing to try to win $100,000. Each round, contestants are asked questions that 80%, 70%, 60%, etc. of people surveyed got right. The questions get harder as the game goes on.
Contestants are eliminated if they get the answer wrong, adding $1,000 to the prize pot. At the end of the game, the people who are left answer the one percent question. If they get it right, they split the money.
But, in between those questions, host Joel McHale usually talks to someone who got the question right and wrong. Fans think the interviews and anecdotes take up a lot of time and believe the game show could be 30 minutes instead of one hour if all of that were cut out.
A Reddit user shared a clip of McHale saying, “When we come back, it’s the moment you’ve waited an hour for, unless you fast-forwarded past the parts with me.”
“This should be a 30-minute show,” the original poster said. “Joel called me out lol. Literally exactly what I do. Fast forward through to the questions. The ridiculous amount of time spent on the lights and talking to people is annoying.”
“I like the audience interaction, but this year people are bringing in special talents, etc., that I could do without,” another fan said.
“When my family get together, it’s a favourite for all 3 generations. We’ll power through about 3 episodes in an hour doing this,” a Reddit user agreed.
“The US version feels like a pool of desperation for TV time. Very tiresome,” a fan said.
“Literally. Just get on with the game,” one last fan said.
However, if fans are tired of the interviews, they can always watch the game show the next day on Hulu. They will have time to catch up on Season 3 episodes as The 1% Club, as well as The Quiz With Balls, will be taken off the air for weeks due to the World Cup. They won’t return with new episodes until July 13.
The 1% Club, Mondays, 8/7c, Fox, stream next day on Hulu
