‘The Price Is Right’ Sees ‘Cost-Cutting Measure’ Next Season

Fans are anticipating new episodes of The Price Is Right coming soon. Before the season premieres, however, one figure has shared a big behind-the-scenes change. However, some have noted a silver lining with the change.

The Price Is Right Recently Finished Season 54 Over The Summer

The Price Is Right is currently in between seasons. Season 54 originally ran from September 22, 2025, to June 26, 2026.

The long-running game show is airing reruns until the premiere of Season 55. In the meantime, some big changes have been teased for the season.

According to TV Insider, fans and models have shared that there will only be one model on each episode. Previously, the show would have two. In addition, the show is set to cut its live studio audience nearly in half.

Recently, Randy West, who serves as the national game show’s announcer and warm-up performer, discussed the change on Facebook. According to West, “‘Honey, We Shrunk The Audience’… again. Can you guess why? When The Price Is Right debuted on CBS in 1972, the seating capacity of Television City’s Studio 33 audience, according to the fire department occupancy sign from 1952, was 337.”

It was noted that, as the show reached Season 52, it moved from Television City to a new Glendale studio. West continued, “CBS had been paying not only for the studio, but for thousands of square feet of storage for games, warehouses full of prizes, and up to 60 automobiles that were garaged on site. With CBS’ sale of the lot, the show was given a five-year moratorium on rent. The move to Glendale was necessary because that rental bill would have killed the show’s budget.”

Some Have Noted That Interested Audience Members Will Now Have A Better Chance At Being Picked For The Show

West noted, “The Glendale studio no longer sat 300 audience members, but only 174. Why? Money.” Reportedly, dozens of seat-fillers were being hired at minimum wage to fill out the audience. Thanks to this, the seating capacity was severely cut with the Glendale move.

West claimed to have heard it rumored that an alternative idea to cutting seats for the show would have been moving the production to Georgia. As the statement continued, “Starting this September, The Price is Right audience will be about one-third the size it had been at Television City. It’s strictly a cost-cutting measure because, when you do the math of paying a dozen or two, or more, seat-fillers every tape day over the course of a season, you’d have likely asked yourself the same question: Why do we need that many people?”

Ultimately, West was unable to share images of the new studio, but included images of old studio photos in the post. As the outlet noted, there was one silver-lining to the news: less seats could mean attendees might have a better chance at being picked to head on down to play.
