What To Know

  • The Rainmaker returns for Season 2 at USA Network this October 16.
  • Here, lead actor Milo Callaghan gives a taste of what lies ahead.

“It’s all changed,” Milo Callaghan teases of The Rainmaker‘s sophomore run. The first season, based on John Grisham‘s novel of the same name, ended with Rudy Baylor (Callaghan) and Deck Shifflet (P.J. Byrne) winning millions for their client thanks to some unusual and lowbrow legal tactics. Now armed with heaps of cash, “they’re hounded by high-profile, high-paying clients,” the actor says.

In-demand though they may be, “they’re still dysfunctional, still in a Taco Hut and still moving like scrappy underdogs,” says Callahan. Plus, they’re still finding their footing as a team. “Tensions come to the surface fairly quickly,” he adds.

Season 2 will explore life before Rudy joined Bruiser’s (Lana Parrilla) ragtag team, but one thing that’s not likely to happen is a rekindling of the romance between Rudy and Sarah (Madison Iseman). “We left it pretty grim,” Callaghan admits. “Rudy’s pretty done.”

Read on for our full email Q&A with Milo Callaghan about what’s ahead in The Rainmaker Season 2, below.

After last season’s big win in the Season 1 finale, how have things changed for Rudy and the firm?

Milo Callaghan: In some ways, it’s all changed. They’ve made a name for themselves, they won a big bag of money and they’re being hounded by high-profile, high-paying clients. And yet, they’re still dysfunctional, still in a Taco Hut, and still moving like scrappy underdogs.

Internally, their relationships are evolving. We see the beginning of a family at the end of the first season, and as we come into Season 2, we mine that dynamic. Tensions come to the surface fairly quickly, and we’re going to watch them play out. It’s make or break.

Michael Seitzman has said there are multiple cases this season. What can you preview about that?

We have several cases that span the whole season. It’s a creative take on real-world stuff. Things that’ve happened in the not-too-distant past. It gives me goosebumps.

What is the dynamic between Rudy and Sarah like this season?

We left it pretty grim. Rudy’s pretty done. Ask Sarah.

What else can you tease about Season 2?

It’s insane. Everything we loved about making the first season, but bigger and better. We’re going to learn a lot more about these people and their lives before Rudy came to J Lyman Stone. We’re going to meet a few new faces, reconnect with a few old ones. Wherever we smell injustice, there’s room for a fight.
