The View co-host Joy Behar has often gotten into it with former RHONY star Bethenny Frankel. Yet, is the comedian responsible for the reality star’s monumental success? Keep reading for more details on how Joy may have played a part.
Joy Behar Reveals Truth Behind Bethenny’s Brand
RHONY viewers have watched Bethenny Frankel go head-to-head with Luann de Lesseps over her Skinnygirl brand. Luann has claimed she helped develop the name, but Bethenny has vehemently denied this. It has caused immense tension between the two women, and they both maintain their truth. Bethenny’s alcohol brand has expanded to food, clothing, and more, but was it even her idea in the first place? The View co-host Joy Behar is speaking up, and it seems that she may have coined the “Skinnygirl” label way before Bethenny ever did.

With Whoopi Goldberg on hiatus and it being the 30th season, former hosts are popping in. Therefore, Debbie Matenopoulos, who was a part of the OG View, appeared on the show. Joy Behar noted that she used to call Debbie a “skinny b*tch” during the beginning of the hit talk show. So, she maintained that was where Bethenny Frankel got Skinnygirl from, but more than that, she “stole” it. When Debbie sat down at the table, Joy immediately referred to her by her old moniker, taking her dig at Bethenny:
“You are forever young, darling, and forever a skinny b*tch,” Joy continued. “She’s always been the skinny b*tch of the show. And then somebody stole that idea and made a whole diet book about it.”
For timeline reference, The View began in 1997, and RHONY did not start until 2008. So, what Joy is saying does add up.
However, at this point, does it even matter? Joy Behar has found success, as has Bethenny Frankel, so let it go. It was then noted by Debbie and Alyssa Farah Griffin that all the ladies have some issue with Bethenny.
Bring Bethenny On
Those who saw this debate believed that The View was the perfect place for Bethenny Frankel. Despite her issues with Joy Behar and even a rough patch with Sunny Hostin, many felt she would fit right in with the women:
- Actually, Bones would fit right in. She’s shrill and opinionated . . . just like them.
Others wanted to know what Joy’s nickname for Debbie had to do with Bethenny’s brand. They felt that they were not intertwined, and many people tend to get Skinny B*tch and Skinny girl mixed up:
- Wow, how many people are going to crawl out of the woodwork claiming “they” came up with the “skinny girl” name? If you did, why didn’t you get it copyrighted like B did and STFU?
- “Skinny B*tch” is NOT “SkinnyGirl” – sorry Joy!
It seems that this was just another dig at Bethenny Frankel by Joy Behar that fell flat. Do you see the correlation, or was it completely off? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
