The View just returned for a new season in early September. However, Whoopi Goldberg is already taking a break from the talk show. Several former co-hosts are returning to reclaim their seat at the Hot Topics table. The news comes just after Rosie O’Donnell teased her return. But she’s not among the hosts coming back this time. Whoopi Goldberg Reveals The View Hiatus
Whoopi Goldberg has a great gig on The View. She took over as moderator in 2007 after Rosie O’Donnell left. The Ghost actress reportedly makes around $8 million a year on the ABC talk show. However, she hasn’t given up her film career. Whoopi Goldberg took a break from The View last year to fulfill her dream of appearing on an Italian soap opera.
Even though The View just returned on September 8, Whoopi Goldberg is ready to leave already. She discussed her upcoming hiatus with the show’s executive producer, Brian Teta, on the show’s Behind the Table podcast.
“We’re going to lose you for a couple of days,” he said. Whoopi Goldberg is taking a break to star in the Netflix movie Women Like Us. Vivica A. Fox, Vanessa Williams, and Jenifer Lewis are also starring in the film, which is produced by Michelle and Barack Obama’s Higher Ground production company. It films in New York City.
“It’s five really wonderful women — several of whom I’ve worked with before. It’s about change and getting older and having fun with your friends and people who get you. It’s about finding your people. I’m excited to do it. It’ll be fun,” Whoopi Goldberg gushed about the project.
Brian Teta revealed that Whoopi Goldberg will continue to moderate The View on Mondays. But Joy Behar will fill in during the days Whoopi is gone.
“Is Joy up for it?” Whoopi Goldberg joked. Brian Teta replied, “Joy is up for it. She’s always excited to moderate. And each day, we’ll have, I think we’ll have Starr and Lisa for two days and Debbie for one.”
Former Hosts Step In During Her Absence
The View kicked off Season 30 earlier this month. The show teased many surprises in store for viewers during its milestone season. Former host Rosie O’Donnell revealed over the summer that she was asked to come back. However, Brian Teta later clarified that it wasn’t official yet.
Rosie O’Donnell may return at some point later in Season 30. However, she’s not among the former hosts filling in for Whoopi Goldberg. The View OGs Star Jones and Debbie Matenopoulos return to the Hot Topics table. Lisa Ling and Sherri Shepherd also fill in for Whoopi Goldberg.
