Alyssa Farah Griffin shared that “the most terrifying experience” of her life had to do with her seven-month-old son, Justin Patrick Griffin Jr. The View cohost gave an update about him after he had to undergo emergency surgery.
“He’s doing amazing,” Farrah Griffin told People four months after his surgery that landed him in the ICU. We’re in a helmet for a year, which honestly, as a first-time mom, I kind of appreciate. I’m like, it’s just another safety mechanism.”
She did not give any more details as to why Justin Jr. needs to wear a helmet. However, Farrah Griffin is so impressed with how quickly he bounced back from his surgery.
“Babies are so resilient. They’re miracles. He will never know the surgery he had. He’ll never feel anything from it. He’s great. He’s so sharp. He’s just perfect,” Farrah Griffin told the outlet.
The former White House staffer revealed the news about the surgery on the Behind the Table podcast on May 4, telling The View executive producer Brian Teta, “My son ended up needing a major operation. I’m actually not going to get into the details, only because I will just turn into a puddle talking about it, but he had to get surgery this weekend.”
They wound up staying in the ICU that whole weekend. She did not give any more details on what the surgery entailed.
“It was the most terrifying thing of my life,” Farah Griffin told People. “When your child is unhealthy or in danger, it has a way of just, the whole world stops.”
“Anything could be happening in the world, and that is my one job is to protect this child. And thank God for amazing doctors, nurses, his neurosurgeon. He is just amazing. So he’s amazing and healthy.”
Farah Griffin and her husband, Justin, welcomed the baby in February, one year after beginning five rounds of IVF and surgery for endometriosis. “I could have predicted the hard parts,” she said. “I could not have wrapped my heart and mind around how much I would love this child. It’s unlike anything I’ve experienced in my life.”
She returned to The View in April, after welcoming her son. Farah Griffin sits beside Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and Sunny Hostin.
