Today‘s Craig Melvin Was Named As Part Of The ‘Hotter Than Your First Cup of Coffee’ Category
Melvin is known to many through his work on Today. By 2019, he became a co-host on the program’s Third Hour. Early last year, he succeeded Hoda Kotb as the co-anchor of the first and second hours.
Recently, it was announced that Melvin was a finalist in People‘s Sexiest Man Alive Reader’s Choice poll. He is one of four morning news personalities featured in the “Hotter Than Your First Cup of Coffee” category. His competition also includes Michael Strahan, Gio Benitez, and Vladimir Duthiers.
During a recent episode of Today, one of Melvin’s co-workers might have noticed something different about Melvin’s appearance. One recent segment about music rights saw Melvin break out into Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby,” dubbing the song “one of my favorites.”
This caused Al Roker to quip, “You got the old Kid ‘n Play going.” This was a nod to Melvin’s taller hairstyle resembling the ’80s and ’90s hip-hop duo’s style.
Melvin replied, “Vanilla Ice, that’s a different cut.” Poking fun at himself, Roker joked, “I’m jealous, whatever the cut is, believe me.”
Melvin’s Co-Stars Previously Showed Their Support For Him, While Throwing A Little Shade On His Competition
This commentary continued when the crew headed out to the Today Plaza with Savannah Guthrie, Dylan Dreyer, and other co-hosts. Noting a fan sign with a giant photo of Melvin, Guthrie shared, “Sooo sexy, is the voting still open for Sexiest Man?” Dreyer noted, “That’s before he grew out his hair.” Pointing at Melvin’s current style, Guthrie mused, “I know, now look at it.” Dreyer liked the hair, adding, “I like this look.” When Melvin asked if she was just flattering him, she shared, “Yes! I really do.”
Interestingly enough, Melvin’s hair journey actually started before the recent campaign named him in the competition. Back in August, he shared that his hair had hit its longest length in three decades. In an Instagram video, “This was encouraged by my longtime barber DJ Fresh. So let’s see what happens.”
Meanwhile, as previously reported, Melvin has also received support from his co-stars while he’s part of the People poll. At the time, Roker teased, looking at the competition, “Look at that, that’s not even close. It’s unfair to the other three.” He even joked, “And by the way, no offense, but Strahan shouldn’t even count because he’s not there on Mondays because he’s doing football.” Currently, the poll will run until October 12. The winners will be announced on October 20.
