As people across the country prepare for the school year, Craig Melvin is reflecting on his family’s summer memories.
“That’s a wrap on an incredible summer,” the Today anchor captioned a Monday, August 24, Instagram post featuring several recent family photos. “Hope you made some good memories. The Melvin family is ready for a new school year!”
The post’s first slide featured a sweet group photo of Melvin and his wife, Lindsay Czarniak, walking on the beach with their two kids, Delano and Sybil. Other snaps included a selfie Melvin took with his kids on a golf course, photos of himself and Czarniak dressed up, pics from his large family vacation, a behind-the-scenes snap of himself and Savannah Guthrie doing NBC‘s Fourth of July coverage, Melvin and Delano at a Jay-Z concert, and more.
In the post’s comments, one fan gushed, “These are all great pictures, Craig- but that first one is absolutely beautiful!” Another added, “Aww you have such a beautiful family!!” Someone else shared, “Such a beautiful family! Hope the kids have a great school year!”
A different person posted, “The first one should be on a Christmas card.” A separate commenter stated, “Beautiful family photos !!! Your kiddos are growing up.”
In an Instagram post of her own on Monday, Czarniak shared several photos of her family supporting Sybil at her Broadway-themed summer camp performance. “One of our summer highlights! Congrats to all the @broadwaybootcamp campers on an epic performance! #summer #camp #acting #thelittlemermaid #theater,” she captioned the upload.
Melvin opened up about the late summer memory during Monday’s episode of the third hour of Today. “Sybil had her performance in The Little Mermaid [on] Friday and Saturday, Friday night and Saturday afternoon,” he told Dylan Dreyer and Kaylee Hartung, the latter of whom filled in for Al Roker. “She was great. She was in her element, in all her glory there.”
Dreyer went on to ask, “Does Del go and watch also?” Melvin quipped, “Begrudgingly, yes. Is he happy about it? Absolutely not.”
Melvin followed up his summer photos and memories by skipping the Tuesday, August 25, episode of Today. Meet the Press moderator filled in for Guthrie, while Today‘s Carson Daly stepped out of his usual cohosting role to replace Melvin at the anchor desk.
“We’re looking forward to getting outside on the Plaza and saying hi to the folks for coming out today on this Tuesday morning. So happy that you are with us,” Daly said at the top of the show’s 8 a.m. ET hour, noting that both Guthrie and Melvin had the day off. The reason for their absence was not revealed, though Melvin’s Monday Instagram post could hint that the hosts are taking time off for their kids’ first days back at school.
Melvin was one of several hosts who were absent from the show on Tuesday, including Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones. Roker was not present in Studio 1A, but reported live from the Universal Studios Orlando theme park.
