Tom Selleck has taken his first acting role since Blue Bloods ended, and it’s a Three Men and a Baby reunion with Ted Danson. Selleck will guest star in a new Apple TV comedy starring Elizabeth Banks and Danson, which has yet to be named.
Details about Selleck’s character are being kept under wraps for now, according to Deadline.
Created by Will Trent‘s Liz Heldens and Madam Secretary‘s Matt Ward, the comedy series follows Heidi (Banks), “who is fresh off a messy divorce and sets out to secure a lively second act for herself and her kids,” the series description reads. “But when she stumbles into coordinating her father’s [Danson] retirement community sexcapades, Heidi is forced into an unlikely alliance with his girlfriend’s perpetually single son.”
In addition to stars Banks and Danson and guest star Selleck, the comedy’s cast includes Rob Delaney, Katey Sagal, Jared Goldstein, and Spencer Moss. Hamish Linklater, Michelle Buteau, and Simu Liu will appear in recurring roles.

This is Selleck’s first acting role since Blue Bloods ended on CBS in 2024. Selleck played NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan for nearly 300 episodes across 14 seasons. The series began in 2010, and Selleck didn’t take on many additional acting roles during that time.
Selleck previously starred in Magnum, P.I. and was a recurring guest star on Friends. Earlier this year, it was announced that Selleck would narrate Revolutionary America on History Channel.
Selleck recently appeared on Danson’s podcast, Where Everybody Knows Your Name, and spoke out again about the “frustrating” Blue Bloods cancellation, noting that he and his costars took big pay cuts for Season 14 to help alleviate costs, a move they were willing to make again to keep the show running.
“The real truth to that is, in the last year of [Blue Bloods], at our last family dinner, everybody wanted to come back. We’d already taken a 25 percent cut in salary,” Selleck shared with Danson. “We’d already done all sorts of things to keep the show going.”
The Blue Bloods universe continues in the Boston Blue spinoff on CBS starring Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green, and the cast and creators frequently share their interest in having Selleck appear as Frank Reagan.
Blue Bloods alumni Len Cariou, Bridget Moynahan, Marisa Ramirez, and Will Hochman appeared on Boston Blue Season 1, and Will Estes will appear in Season 2 in addition to Ramirez. Boston Blue Season 2 premieres on October 9.
