When it comes to the world of comedy, no one is safe from being the subject of a comedian’s joke, even other comedians. Recently, Wanda Sykes opened up about a reaction she got after cracking a joke about Bill Maher. This took place shortly after she made her joke at the Golden Globes ceremony.
Wanda Sykes Recently Opened Up About The Story During A Recent Podcast Appearance
Sykes is a comedian and actress. In addition to her stand-up career, she is known for appearing on shows and films like The New Adventures of Old Christine, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Upshaws.
Throughout her career, Sykes has interacted with various media figures. Recently, she opened up about an awkward encounter with one figure in particular: Bill Maher, known for his work on Real Time with Bill Maher and Politically Incorrect.

Sykes opened up about the story on Vulture‘s “Good One” podcast. Sykes noted that this followed January’s Golden Globes ceremony, where she made a joke at Maher’s defense: “Bill Maher, you give us so much, but I would love a little less. Just try less.”
Sykes Admitted That There Was One Word From Maher That Really Ended Up Setting Her Off
The comedian noted that Maher wasted no time in confronting her as he spoke with her in the parking lot after the event. However, she felt that he ended up proving her point.
Sykes shared, “Oh, he stopped me out in the parking lot. We were waiting for our cars. And he was like, ‘What was that about?’ I was like, ‘It’s a joke, Bill.’ He was like, ‘Well, I mean, it wasn’t even a joke.’ I said, ‘Oh, no, I heard laughter. It was clearly a joke.’”
At this point, Sykes then did an impression of Maher. She shared, “He’s like, ‘But I don’t…I don’t..but, I mean, I don’t, but still…I mean, it’s not even a joke. It was just like…’ I said, ‘See? You’re doing exactly what we said in the joke! We need less of this! You epitomize the joke. Less of this!” With a laugh, she shared, “He didn’t care for it.”
Sykes explained that Maher told her he had received criticism from his fans, complete with texts asking about the joke, with one calling it “stupid.” She continued, “And when he said ‘stupid,’ I said, ‘Okay, now you’re gonna get it.’
“I was like, ‘Well, I got a lot of texts telling me how great it was and how they don’t like you, and it was really funny. I guess, you know, that’s the problem. You’re watching Fox News, and I’m over here on MSNBC. See?’ And then he asked me to be on his podcast. I was like, ‘Absolutely not!’”
