Why Has A Philly Radio Station Banned All Taylor Swift Songs?

TV Shows

Radio show Bex and Buster has announced that Taylor Swift’s music will not be featured on their station throughout the entire weekend.

Football might just be a game to some, but for others, it’s a way of life. And there may not be a city in America that takes football as seriously as Philadelphia. This is the city that lives and breathes for its sports teams. Even Santa Claus isn’t safe from the ferocity and passion of Philly fans.

In 1968, fans of the Philadelphia Eagles pelted Santa with snowballs during a halftime show. That year was a particularly bad season for the team, and fans showed their displeasure by taking out their frustrations on Jolly Old Saint Nick. If that doesn’t summarize the passion that Philly fans have for football, then nothing will.

This Philly Radio Station Takes Their Football Seriously

Philly fans will stop at nothing when it comes to showing their support for the Eagles. That’s why a Philadelphia radio station is deciding to put its foot down on Taylor Swift. The music icon is currently dating NFL player Travis Kelce, whose brother Jason currently plays for the Eagles. On November 19, the Kelce brothers will face off against each other when the Kansas City Chiefs visit Philadelphia. Radio Station Q102 has opted to show Jason Kelce their support by tossing Taylor Swift to the side. Well, at least for the weekend that is.

“Q102 loves Taylor Swift and the whole Travis [Kelce] and Taylor thing as much as the rest of the world. But this weekend we’ve gotta focus, so we’ve been forced to punt Taylor Swift from the playlist,” radio personality Buster Satterfield explained during an appearance on Good Day Philadelphia.

Satterfield’s cohost, Bex Maroun, added some additional reasoning for their Taylor Swift ban. “No Taylor Swift will be heard on Q102 all weekend long because there’s only one Swift [and] Kelce duo we care about here in the City of Brotherly Love.” Maroun is referring to Jason Kelce and Eagles running back D’Andre Swift.

When asked when the Taylor Swift ban will go into effect, Satterfield reiterated that it’s for the entire weekend. “Friday at five o’clock. Which is a big day for us. Because at five o’clock we’re going to have our ceremonial last play of Taylor Swift,” she said.

Travis Kelce’s Romance With Taylor Swift

In September, rumors began to swirl that Travis Kelce was attempting to get Taylor Swift’s attention. The All-Pro tight end attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in early July. He spoke about his plan to sneak into Taylor Swift’s inner circle on his New Heights podcast with Jason Kelce. “If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets. I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it,” Travis Kelce said.

Whether his story was true or not, it is obvious that he eventually got the pop star’s attention. After a few weeks of gossip, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were spotted together while in New York. Since then, Taylor Swift has been a staple at most Kansas City Chiefs games. She has even spent plenty of time with Travis Kelce’s mother, Donna.
