Wendie Malick recently revealed that she won’t do a Hot in Cleveland reboot without Betty White — and the actress has a valid reason.
On June 6, Malick, 75, attended the Shrinking Emmy FYC Event Screening in West Hollywood, California. She was asked about her former co-star, Valerie Bertinelli, 66, who recently said she was game for a reboot of the sitcom.
“I don’t know,” Malick told People, of the idea. “Because it would be so weird without Betty.”
She also compared a potential Hot in Cleveland reboot without White to “missing a limb.” Malick explained, “I think sometimes the experience was so wonderful that you want to just savor that and hold on to it and just store it in your heart.”
In late April, Bertinelli shared that she had spoken to executive producer Todd Milliner about reuniting the Hot in Cleveland cast.
“I know that, God bless, the gorgeous Betty White isn’t with us any longer, but we have to figure out something to do to honor her, to honor the show that people love so much,” she told People at the FYC screening and panel for her Lifetime Original Movie Love, Again. “So many people are watching it right now, so I want to do a reboot. I’m all in for a reboot.”
Bertinelli added, “Let’s just have everybody come back.”
During a 2015 interview with USA Today, White reflected on how emotional it the last day of filming for Hot in Cleveland was.
“Every time we’d make eye contact, you’d find somebody whose eyes were full,” she recalled. “We were all so conscious that it was the last day and trying so hard not to talk about it. And when we hugged at the end of the show, we just didn’t want to let go.”
Hot in Cleveland aired for six seasons from 2010 to 2015. In addition to Malick (who played Victoria Chase), White (Elka Ostrovsky), and Bertinelli (Melanie Moretti), the TV Land sitcom starred Jane Leeves as Joy Scroggs.
