Hope Mikaelson isn’t in Mystic Falls anymore.
In fact, the newly minted (and first of her kind) tribrid without her humanity made the trek all the way to Clarke-y’s, er, Ryan’s, front door and barged in on his two-week anniversary with Trudy.
Admittedly, that’s not what I had in mind when Ryan said he wanted a human life, but the rundown gray sales job is TV’s truest depiction of what it means to be human.
While Ryan didn’t necessarily see Hope’s arrival as a blessing, he definitely should’ve been more grateful because she gave him a free pass to dodge a pretty big red flag.
Who goes all out in such a fashion for a two-week anniversary?
Ryan turned down Hope’s offer to take on the Triad together, but she wasn’t asking as much as she was insisting.
One compulsion later and Ryan’s schedule was freed up so that he could assist in any way he could.
Their quest to Triad HQ was pretty lame, I’m not going to lie, but I’m chalking it up to a bigger-picture situation here, especially when the final shot showed Ryan telling Trudy all about vampires.
Her doe-eyed naivety makes her the perfect victim for those vamps though.
Hope did come out victorious as she left Triad HQ with the information she was seeking, so good for her.
And, most importantly, Ryan realized there was still a little piece of Hope buried deep down inside that was hopeful that things could turn back around.
Of course, that’s comforting for the Super Squad as they are literally doing everything in their power to find a solution to save Hope.
And all the scenarios they’ve been playing out have been pretty grim since they result in everyone getting turned to dust, having their hearts ripped out, incinerated, or, worst of all, beheaded.
Hope has no mercy when it comes to showing off her newfound power.
However, Cleo is holding back a tidbit of information that, if it were to get into the wrong hands, could spell a world of trouble: there’s a way to kill Hope.
No one being every immortal or indestructible; nature always has a way of balancing itself out.
Cleo mentions her stake came from a nearby tree, so my guess is that it’s the White Oak tree or some variation of it.
Again, in the wrong hands, that weapon could be Hope’s demise, so it makes sense that Cleo isn’t entirely forthcoming with the information.
There are a lot of emotions running rampant right now, and with Alaric’s life hanging in the balance, not everyone is thinking clearly. Someone could do something they regret and can never take back.
However, the plan isn’t to kill Hope, it’s to get her back, so the stake is a last resort of sorts.
Lizzie almost did something she couldn’t come back from when she found a spell to bring someone back from the dead that required a human sacrifice.
She was all for it until she realized that she was killing someone else’s father in order to save her own.
Lizzie can be a lot of things, but she’s not a murderer.
And Josie is right — if they want a shot at saving Alaric, they’re going to have to find a way to get through to Hope.
It’s a huge burden to put on the twins, and, in turn, the Super Squad, so I’m shocked that they’re all still required to attend classes.
Also, why knew that school had actual teachers that took attendance?!
Over on the Other Side, or as some like to call it, Limbo, Ted and Landon were hoping to find a way to cross over to the land of peace.
Without a gold coin to pay the toll, they were both stuck. That all changed when Ted ran into his old buddy Oscar who had been stuck there for years waiting for the all mighty Necromancer to bring him back.
Ted couldn’t cross because he had an unresolved issue. He had to be honest with Oscar about the fact that he never tried to revive him and that he only sacrificed him to wield more power.
Once Oskar forgave him, Ted got a gold coin. And when he gave that gold coin to Landon willingly, he got a second one.
Self-sacrifice is always the answer.
And then, in a shocking moment, the duo was joined by Alaric Saltzman.
Does this mean our vampire-hunter-turned-dad-and-supernatural-school-principal is dead?
How will they get him back? There’s no Legacies without the man in charge!
Maybe there’s a chance for Alaric and Landon to get a second chance at life after all.
Other stray musings
- Kaleb is going to go out of his way to make things better by finding the monster Ryan called about by himself.
- Also, the fire breathing power is pretty cool for Kaleb.
- Josie and Finch are still super cute. I’m glad she’s a constant for Josie during this tough time.
- Ethan is a fun addition to the Super Squad. Once he learns how to use his invisibility, that guy is going places!
