We’re a little over a week away from Big Brother Season 28, and CBS has rewarded us patient Big Brother Fanatics with a glimpse of the revamped house and some teases about the twists set to shake up the game.
The season is called Big Brother: Time Trip, with the network revealing that it will turn “time into the ultimate twist.”
“Houseguests will enter a world where rooms, relics and competitions transport them across moments in time, while early twists shake up the game from the start,” the press release teases.

That certainly sounds exciting, but if you’ve been watching Big Brother for as long as I have, you’re probably approaching that promise with a healthy dose of skepticism.
This time last year, we learned about Big Brother Season 27′s Hotel Mystere, and while it sounded like a fun concept on paper, it ultimately felt like more of a backdrop than something that actively shaped the season.
Maybe that’s why I’m looking at Big Brother: Time Trip a little differently.
Something about the way CBS has been promoting this season makes it feel like the theme will actually matter this time around, especially with the series gearing up for its milestone 1000th episode.

Rachel Reilly’s return undoubtedly encouraged producers to lean into nostalgia last season.
Ratings climbed to multi-year highs, proving there’s still a huge appetite for familiar faces when they’re brought back the right way.
Big Brother Season 28 Could Be a Game of Second Chances
Maybe that’s why time is the ultimate twist for Big Brother Season 28.
If the season is really about time being fractured, it could open the door to all kinds of surprises, including the return of former houseguests.

Could you imagine iconic players walking back through those doors after the new houseguests complete a classic competition?
Or maybe it won’t be legends at all.
One thing that caught my attention is that CBS hasn’t said much about the cast.
Usually, preseason press materials make it crystal clear that a brand new group of houseguests is entering the game. This year, there’s been virtually no mention of that.

It’s hard to imagine another full-blown All-Stars season so soon after the last one, but what if production went in a completely different direction?
What if they brought back players whose games ended before they really had a chance to begin?
A season made up of early evicted houseguests could be fascinating. They’ve had years to reflect on what went wrong, watch their seasons play out, and think about how they would’ve approached the game differently.
Would their strategy improve, or would they buckle under the pressure all over again?

We’ve seen plenty of seasons featuring returning players, so I don’t think we can rule anything out at this point.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that I’m reading way too much into a marketing campaign.
Big Brother has a habit of selling its themes hard before quietly moving away from them once the game gets underway.
Still, something feels different this year.

There will apparently be more Big Brother on the air than ever this summer, and honestly, that’s only a good thing.
The broadcast networks have become a wasteland during the summer months.
But Big Brother and companion series Big Brother: Unlocked have a real chance to pull in even bigger audiences than last season.
Whether the time-travel theme leads to returning players or something else entirely, it feels like CBS is aiming higher than usual.
Now it just has to deliver.

Over to you, Big Brother Fanatics! What are your thoughts on the time travel twist?
Do you want more franchise alums or new faces?
Let’s keep the conversation going — it’s the only way the good stuff survives.
