Lives Will Change When Best Medicine Season 2 Returns

It’s less than two months away until our favorite cozy dramedy returns.

We’re all a little starved for scripted television shows, and FOX’s Best Medicine returns on Tuesday, September 22.

We have some of the newly released Best Medicine Season 2 images and teasers to share with you, and it looks like it will be a dramatic season for everyone.

While it appears from the photos that Martin (Josh Charles) is still practicing medicine, he looks as grumpy as ever.

While that could be from Glendon blowing his life apart and revealing his blood phobia to the board on the Best Medicine Season 1 finale, I suspect Martin’s life is about to change.

There were so many cliffhangers, making a five-month time jump an ideal place to start.

Martin Will Have to Practice Medicine Differently

Martin may have adapted to Port Wenn, but he still dislikes people. It’s probably fair to say that his favorite people are Peter and Copernicus.

That means that Martin will detest it if someone needs to approve every medical move he makes because of the mistakes he made previously.

Were they wrong? Sure. But Martin saved many people’s lives, including Louisa, Peter, and Glendon’s teenage son.

He and Elaine made a great team, with an assist from Louisa in the ambulance.

Part of me hopes that Eden is the doctor who is assigned to shadow him. At least she knows him, and hopefully, by now he’s confided in her about the circumstances.

Maybe she would understand why he left Boston and figure out a way for him to make this work. It would be better than having a stranger follow Martin since he doesn’t take kindly to strangers.

Louisa’s Arc Will Focus on Motherhood, but Will It Be With Mark?

Having a five-month time jump will also speed answers along for Louisa’s storyline arc.

Viewers will learn within minutes whether she accepted Mark’s co-parenting offer to have a baby together on the Best Medicine Season 2 premiere.

It seemed like the idea shocked Louisa, but I’m rooting for Louisa and Mark to have a baby together.

They have so much in common, and they could be the fun parents. I maintain it’s the better option than having a stranger be Louisa’s baby’s sperm donor.

Of course, Louisa could decide that she and Mark are finally in a better place and that having a baby together would complicate that.

One of the perks of approaching it together could be that she would have backup for her appointments with Dr. Montgomery. They already have a rivalry over Martin, and she didn’t have the warmest bedside manner.

I like messy drama, but we’ll have to wait another six weeks to find out.

Best Medicine Season 2 Takes the Love Triangle to an Entertaining Love Square

Best Medicine’s love triangle, consisting of Martin, Louisa, and Mark, hits differently because not many shows explore the bonds between ex-fiancées and turn their relationship into best friends.

Mark and Louisa’s friendship was charming. I’m unsure if I want them to date again, but I understand why Mark missed their relationship.

On the other hand, Martin and Louisa were only in the beginning stages of dating, but they challenged each other and featured awesome chemistry.

I could have seen something there, but then Louisa got bitten by the baby bug, and Martin’s life got turned upside down.

It wouldn’t be a primetime drama without a misunderstanding, so naturally Martin overheard Louisa and Mark talking about having a baby together, but didn’t hear the co-parent part.

He thought he totally blew his chances with her and went back to his ex, Eden Montgomery (Eliza Coupe).

She’ll be back in Season 2, both as Martin’s love interest and Louisa’s doctor, and things could get messy if she’s advising his ex on her next move.

I’m here for the drama.

Martin Clunes Appears Again in Best Medicine Season 2, Kicking Off More Family Drama

Martin Clunes will appear again in Best Medicine Season as Martin’s father, Dr. Robert Best.

When he last appeared on Best Medicine Season 1 Episode 9, things were tense between father and son because Robert refused to acknowledge Martin’s sister Rosemary’s death.

From being around Aunt Sarah and Louisa, Martin learned the importance of facing his grief and beginning to talk about his feelings, but his father hadn’t gotten there yet.

When Robert returns, he’ll need to reconcile with his son and his sister.

Best Medicine isn’t typically an intense drama, so there will likely be some comedy mixed in, but Sarah should give him hell for taking her house before they sit down and talk.

I imagine we’ll see lighter scenes as Robert and Martin come to terms. Josh Charles excels in this dramedy role, combining dramatic confrontation with wit.

It was kind of ironic that Martin’s mom noticed that Martin and Louisa had feelings for each other before he acknowledged it himself.

I wonder what she’ll think of him trying things again with Eden? They’re matched well professionally, which his parents would approve of, but the chemistry is lacking.

How Will Martin’s Predicament Affect Elaine?

Martin’s blood phobia didn’t only affect him since he allowed Elaine to draw blood for him, and she wasn’t technically certified.

However, she stated that she helped Dr. Reese as well, so Glendon’s vendetta was more about revenge against Martin.

If Elaine chooses to stay on and assist Martin, the board will help fund her certification.

While I think Elaine was a humorous entertainer, she helped more people in Port Wenn, so I want her to stay. I enjoyed her friendship with Louisa, and her banter with Martin was priceless.

They had almost an annoying little sister and grumpy older brother vibe. She humanized him.

I also hope that if she stays, we’ll see more of Al since he has his own family drama in town.
