A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 has officially wrapped filming, according to star Peter Claffey. The prequel, set about 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones, is the second spinoff in the HBO franchise based on the works of George R.R. Martin.
While the Jon Snow series has been shelved indefinitely, the onscreen franchise is still expanding beyond 2027, so here’s a compilation of every Game of Thrones spinoff currently in the works, including an animated series about a character from House of the Dragon and more.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2, 2027

Filming on Season 2 of the Emmy-nominated series has wrapped as of August 13. Claffey, who plays Ser Duncan the Tall, shared a sentimental wrap gift he received from the crew on Instagram on August 13. It’s an Irish field hockey hurling stick with Dunk and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) and “The Hedge Knight” carved into it.
“The greatest wrap gift I’ve ever received,” Claffey wrote on his Instagram story (above).
Filming on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 started in December 2025 in Belfast and continued through August in various locations. Production was briefly delayed in April due to flooding in Spain.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 is based on the second Dunk and Egg novella, The Sworn Sword, and is set to premiere in the first half of 2027 on HBO. Since they’re adapting one novella per season and there are three novellas, the series could be three seasons total. But showrunner Ira Parker has said that Martin is writing a fourth novella and he has seen unpublished material that can be used for the show, so he imagines up to five seasons total.
Parker also has an ambitious idea to take a years-long break after the first series ends before returning to make more of Dunk and Egg’s story. They would wait for their actors to age by some years to show Dunk and Egg at different points in their lives. Parker dreams of continuing this through Egg’s adulthood, and he doesn’t want anyone but Claffey and Ansell playing the roles.
House of the Dragon Season 4, 2028

House of the Dragon Season 3 ended on Sunday, August 9, and it has already been renewed for a fourth and final season. House of the Dragon Season 4 is set to premiere in 2028.
Showrunner Ryan Condal told TV Insider of the final season: “We have an incredible season coming. As crazy and big as Season 3 was, I think Season 4 is going to be even bigger.”
“It’s a great privilege to be able to tell a story, and to be able to control and write the ending, and to control when and where that happens. This is not a given in making television, certainly,” he continued. “So, we’re very excited to get back in, and we have new characters, and new dragons and new locations all to come that I think are gonna make it a very worthy final season. And I’m looking forward to doing it with one of my favorite people in the world, Emma D’Arcy.”

The first Game of Thrones movie, Aegon’s Conquest, is set to come out sometime after 2027. Warner Bros. Discovery reaffirmed its intentions to make the Game of Thrones movie about Aegon the Conqueror in a letter to shareholders on August 6.
The letter said, “Beyond 2027, the slate will continue to leverage iconic intellectual property, including the theatrical event film Aegon’s Conquest from the Game of Thrones universe, the next installment of The Matrix, the next Batman film, and a live-action Jetsons film starring Jim Carrey.”
Aegon’s Conquest tells the story of how Aegon the Conqueror founded the Targaryen dynasty in Westeros by uniting the independent seven kingdoms into one nation. He’s frequently mentioned in Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, and he made and claimed the Iron Throne with the help of his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, and their three dragons, Balerion the Black Dread, Vhagar, and Meraxes. Vhagar is seen in House of the Dragon. The skull of Balerion is seen in House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones.

Nine Voyages, TBD

An animated series about the Sea Snake, a.k.a. Lord Corlys Velaryon, was announced in 2021 but has gotten little updates since. It would follow the seafaring adventures of the Lord of the Tides. Steve Toussaint plays the Sea Snake in House of the Dragon, and he gave an update on the animated series in June 2026, saying that while he doesn’t know the status of the production, he believes it is still ongoing.
“I’m afraid I don’t [know any updates]. Initially, when it was mooted, when we were shooting Season 1, it was mooted, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’d be great.’ And then I thought, ‘I can’t play 21 again. Oh, s**t, it’s too late,’” Toussaint told Screen Rant. “And then George said to me, ‘Oh, no, it’ll be animated.’ And I was like, ‘OK, great.’ But that’s the last I heard. I saw George just a few weeks ago, and as far as I’m aware, it’s ongoing. I don’t know what stage they’re at with it, but it’s still a possibility. But other than that, I don’t know.”
In January 2026, Deadline reported that animation legend Genndy Tartakovsky was reportedly tied to Nine Voyages. It started as a live-action series but was switched to animation due to budgeting.
10,000 Ships, TBD
The aforementioned Deadline report said that a Game of Thrones spinoff called 10,000 Ships, written by Eboni Booth, was in the works. 10,000 Ships would be a prequel series set 1,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It’s about legendary warrior-queen Nymeria and the migration of the Rhoynar.
Game of Thrones: The Mad King (Stage Play)
A stage play about Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) father, Aegon, the Mad King, is currently in production in the West End in London. Game of Thrones: The Mad King can be seen on stage at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. It opened on August 8.
Is the Jon Snow Game of Thrones spinoff still happening?

No, the Jon Snow spinoff with Kit Harington has been shelved indefinitely. It would have followed Harington’s character in his life after the events of the Game of Thrones series finale. Harington said in 2026 that while they tried to make a good story, they never found the right idea to justify the spinoff’s creation. He’s open to the possibility of returning to the idea later.
Will there be an Arya Stark spinoff?
Deadline reported in January 2026 that an Arya Stark spinoff is apparently in the works at HBO, but there have been no other updates on its reported development.
