Big Brother fans should once again expect the unexpected when it comes to the 1,000th episode. We talked with the executive producers — Allison Grodner, Rich Meehan, and Chris Roach — about the milestone and what the new twist will entail.
As previously announced, the 1,000th episode, which will take place on Thursday, August 27th, will deliver the “biggest twist of the summer.” If you’re thinking Jankie World, a Battleback, a split house, the White Locust twist, or anything that happened in the past 27 seasons, think again.
“This episode will launch one of the biggest twists of the summer…and it’s something that has never happened before!” the producers told TV Insider.
Along with the twist, the episode will feature an eviction, past Houseguests, and look back at some of the most memorable moments from the show’s historic 26-year run. Big Brother had an epic double eviction for its 500th episode, so it will be exciting to see what happens for the 1,00th. “There will definitely be surprises,” the producers said. Big Brother is the first primetime show to reach 1,000 original episodes.
About reaching 1,000 episodes, the producers told us how they feel and who they chalk it up to. “It’s crazy! To hit 1000 is an incredible milestone and an incredible honor. It really speaks to the passionate and dedicated fanbase who have grown with us over the 26 years, as well as the talented, creative, and hardworking crew who spend their summers making it all happen. We owe this amazing accomplishment to all of them,” they told us.
Host Julie Chen Moonves also shared that she wanted to try the iconic wall competition for 1,000 seconds for the episode. Since the competition already happened this season, maybe a segment of her trying it will be shown. The EPs said they are “happy to make” the “fun idea” happen. They want to make this the “biggest and most exciting season yet.”
As for whether or not the producers think the CBS reality show will reach 2,000 episodes, they said, “Hmmmm…that would be a quarter century more of Big Brother. We could only hope that the series will last that long. Maybe we will hop in the Dining Table Time machine and find out!” The Dining Table Time Machine is an element they added this year, where the Houseguests sit at the dining room table, a date pops up on the wall, and they are “transported” there for a competition.
