President Donald Trump has had a complicated history with the media since the start of his political campaign. In a recent share, he claimed that a few media organizations would be banned from the White House going forward. Since then, these media outlets have also shared updates.
President Donald Trump Decried A Few Media Outlets On Truth Social
Trump has served as both the 45th and 47th president of the United States, being elected in 2016 and 2024. Throughout this time, he has dealt with various media outlets.
A few years back, Trump also helped to co-found the alt-tech social media platform, Truth Social. Launching in 2022, he has often used the outlet to make statements to the American people.

In a recent Truth Social share, Trump criticized various media outlets, accusing them of “fake news.” He wrote, “I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MS NOW… and Politico… from the White House as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!”
During the share, Trump noted that MS NOW “recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility!” When describing Politico, he wrote, “The recipients of an illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription, an All Time Record, directly from the United States Government, under Crooked Joe Biden, in order to keep them ‘alive.’ Seems like corruption to me!”
The Three Named Media Outlets Have Since Spoken Out About The Situation
As Trump continued, “Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America.”
Trump continued, “Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow,” though he did not specify which. He concluded, “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Trump first used the expression “fake news” back in 2016 on social media. He famously used the expression the following year during a live press exchange with a CNN reporter.
Since then, the outlets mentioned in the post have shared their reactions. According to MS NOW, ts journalists “were denied access to the White House grounds” on Saturday morning, a day after the statement was released. It was added, “MS NOW intends to take any and all steps necessary to defend our First Amendment rights and the essential role of independent journalism in our democracy.”
For its part, CNN shared that it “stands fully behind our White House team and their fair and accurate reporting.” In a post on X, Politico Press, the publication’s communications team, wrote that claims that Politico “received government subsidies are false and have been thoroughly debunked.”
POLITICO will continue to fairly report on this White House and future ones. We will vigorously defend our First Amendment rights against any attempt to restrict them.
