Days of Our Lives is a cherished part of television history. The soap opera has aired for over 60 years. It aired on NBC for 57 years before moving to the Peacock streaming service. No matter where it airs, it gets a lot of viewers. A new trend of celebrity cameos on soap operas sparked a late-night host to beg to join Days. The soap opera reportedly accepted, casting them in a special role. Keep reading for all the details.
Everyone Wants To Be On Days Of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives gained new viewers in the early 1990s for its outlandish possession storyline. Marlena Evans, the heroine of the soap opera, was possessed by the devil. Deidre Hall earned praise for her performance. She marks 50 years on the soap this month. The daytime drama has been honoring her contribution to the show by counting down Marlena’s 5 best storylines.

Even hotshot movie actor Ryan Gosling is a Days of Our Lives fan. He went viral earlier this year for praising the show, leading Deirdre Hall to personally invite him to the set. He accepted the offer. Maybe while he’s on set, he will film a cameo for the show.
Sports television personality Stephen B. Smith occasionally appears on General Hospital as Brick, a security guard for mob boss Sonny Corinthos. The ESPN host has also floated the idea of running for President. He inspired a late-night talk show host who begged a soap opera to cast him in a special role.
Beloved Soap Opera Casts Late-Night Host In Surprise Role
Last Week Tonight has been airing on HBO since 2014. John Oliver hosts the late-night talk show. On an episode in March, he begged for a chance to be on a daytime soap opera. “To all the soap operas out there, let me say this: I am officially offering myself to you. Write me a role, and I’ll be on your set so fast, it’ll make your head spin,” he said.

But he wanted more than just a celebrity cameo. “First, I don’t want to play myself. I want to be a character. And I want his name to be ridiculous. Also, I want to do something juicy — like murder or slapping or being slapped or being someone’s long-lost something — and, ideally, I’d like a dramatic close-up of my face. But in return, trust me, I will give my all to this performance,” he said about his dream role.
It seems Days of Our Lives heard his pleas. The Daily Mail reported that John Oliver and the sudser are in talks for a surprising role. The details of the role weren’t revealed or an airdate. But another source revealed that John Oliver turned down an “emotional” role at General Hospital because he wants to do something “fun.” Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
