A Jeopardy! contestant swept a round early on in the game. Did they maintain the win? Find out if the returning champion won another game.
Jen Spinoglio, from San Francisco, California, returned for her second game on September 17 with a one-day total of $10,801. On Thursday, the financial researcher played against Christie Ritten, from La Grange Park, Illinois, and Mark Ramirez, from Northglenn, Colorado. Warning: Spoilers for the Thursday, September 17 episode of Jeopardy! ahead.
Ramirez, an executive communications lead, took an early lead by the first 15 clues with $6,000. Spinoglio had -$1,000. Ritten, an actuary, got on the board on the last clue with $400.
Ritten found the Daily Double on clue 16. She wagered the allotted $1,000 on “Popular Books of 1976.” The clue read, “‘In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing,’ begins this Norman Maclean novella.”
“I got nothing,” she said. The correct response was A River Runs Through It. Ritten had -$600.
By the end of the round, Ramirez had $7,000. Spinoglio had $800. Ritten ended with $400.
In Double Jeopardy, Ramirez found the first DD on clue four. He had $11,800 and wagered $1,800. The clue in “Desert Animals” was “The desert subspecies of this, Ovis Canadensis, can use ledges only 2 inches wide as hoof-holds.”
“What is the Mountain Goat?” he answered incorrectly. The correct response was Corn Sheep. This dropped him down to $10,000.
Ritten found the last DD on clue 29. She had $4,800 and wagered all of her money. In “Will You Take Care of That?” the clue was “Ok — as Charlie Brown tells Schroeder about the guy who was asked if he can play the ‘Hallelujah Chorus,’ ‘I guess I can’ so this.”
“What is handle it?” she answered at the last minute. This gave her $9,600.
At the end of the game, Ramirez had a huge runaway of $20,800. Ritten had $9,600. Spinoglio was in third place with $2,800.
They all correctly answered the “TV Anniversaries” Final Jeopardy clue, which was “In 2025, this show celebrated its 40th anniversary, sadly without its 4 main stars, the last of whom passed away in 2021 at age 99.” All three game show contestants correctly answered with The Golden Girls.
Spinoglio wagered $2,799, giving her $5,599. Ritten’s wager of $2,400 gave her a final total of $12,000. Ramirez didn’t wager anything, making his final total $20,800. He will return for his second game on Friday, September 18.
