Some Hollywood couples could add significant weight to their trophy shelves after the 78th Emmy Awards on Monday, September 14. Matthew Rhys is doubly nominated for his lead performances in Widow’s Bay and The Beast in Me, while his longtime partner, Keri Russell, picked up a nomination for her lead role in The Diplomat.
Meanwhile, Michelle Pfeiffer and husband David E. Kelley are both nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series as executive producers of Margo’s Got Money Troubles, for which Pfeiffer also has a nod in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category.
And after producing the final season of Hacks, spouses Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs — who co-created the comedy series with Jen Statsky and already each have several Emmys, as you’ll see below — have a whopping six nominations between them this year for that work.

Lucia Aniello & Paul W. Downs
Together, Aniello and Downs won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series in 2021 and 2024 for Hacks. As producers, they also earned Outstanding Comedy Series trophies in 2024. Plus, Aniello won the 2021 Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for directing the Hacks pilot. The couple has been married since 2021.

Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz
Ball won Best Comedienne in 1953, Best Actress–Continuing Performance in 1956 for I Love Lucy and Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Comedy Series in both 1967 and 1968 for The Lucy Show. She also won the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame honors in 1984 and its Governors Award in 1989. Arnaz, to whom she was married for two decades, won Best Situation Comedy trophies in 1953 and 1954 for his work on I Love Lucy, and he was added to the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame in 1991.

Anne Bancroft & Mel Brooks
Bancroft scored an Emmy for Outstanding Variety or Musical Program–Variety And Popular Music in 1970 for Annie, The Women in the Life of a Man, and she got another trophy nearly three decades later, for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie in 1999 for Deep in My Heart. Brooks, to whom she was married from 1964 until her 2005 death, won Outstanding Writing Achievement in Variety in 1967 for The Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner, Howard Morris Special, and he got three trophies three decades later, winning Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series in 1997, 1998, and 1999 for his performance in Mad About You.

Bonnie Bartlett & William Daniels
Bartlett won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category twice, in 1986 and 1987, both for her work in St. Elsewhere. Her 1986 win overlapped with one for Daniels, her husband since 1951, who was also recognized with two consecutive Emmys for St. Elsewhere: He won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1985 and 1986.

Hume Cronyn & Jessica Tandy
Cronyn and Tandy were married from 1942 until her death in 1994, and both did Emmy-winning work during that time. She won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Special in 1988 for Foxfire. He won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Special in 1990 for Age-Old Friends, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Special in 1992 for Broadway Bound, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Special (again) in 1994 for To Dance With the White Dog.

Tina Fey & Jeff Richmond
Together, Fey and Richmond, the comedian and producer she married in 2001, landed Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2007, 2008, and 2009, for their joint work on 30 Rock. Fey also won Emmys for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program (2002, for Saturday Night Live); Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (both in 2008 for 30 Rock); Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series two times (in 2009 and 2016, both for SNL); Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (2013, for 30 Rock); and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special (in 2025 for SNL50: The Anniversary Special).

Lahti scored the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1998 for Chicago Hope. Since 1983, Lahti has been married to Schlamme, who shared in The West Wing’s four consecutive Outstanding Drama Series wins between 2000 and 2003 and also won Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series in 2000 and 2001 for his work on that show. In other Emmy victories, Schlamme won for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series (1997, for Tracey Takes On…), Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (1999, for Sports Night), and Outstanding Special Class Program (2002, for The West Wing: Documentary Special).

Paulson claimed the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Emmy in 2016 for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Taylor, who has been in a relationship with Paulson for more than a decade, won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1999 for The Practice.

Felicity Huffman & William H. Macy
Huffman and Macy, who have been married since 1997, won Emmys within just a few years of each other. Macy took home the gold twice in 2003 for Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special and
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for Door to Door. Two years later, Huffman won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Lynette Scavo in Desperate Housewives.

Two halves of one of the original Hollywood power couples, Woodward and Newman are also both Emmy recipients. She won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series in 1978 for See How She Runs, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Special in 1985 for Do You Remember Love, and Outstanding Informational Special in 1990 for Broadway’s Dreamers: The Legacy of the Group Theatre. Newman got his one Emmy Award late in life, winning Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie in 2005 for Empire Falls.
