Carrie Underwood will replace Katy Perry as an American Idol judge starting next season. However, Carrie remains a top country music star, and there is a chance that her tenure on the show will be short. However, another former Idol competitor said she is “open” to stepping into the judges’ chair.
Here is what you need to know about another possible Idol contestant joining the show.
Jennifer Hudson Willing To Join American Idol As A Judge
Jennifer Hudson is the youngest woman to win an EGOT, with an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award. She was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has become a massive star since her breakout. However, before all this, she was an American Idol contestant but didn’t even make it to the finals.
Hudson appeared in the third season of the reality singing competition series and finished seventh place. Despite not making the finals, she went on to sign her own record deal with Arista Records, which saw her album peak at number two on the Billboard 200 while winning a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
Jennifer Hudson is a perfect example of an Idol competitor who was much better than the position she finished in. This could also make her a great judge for the show as someone with that experience. However, it won’t happen anytime soon.
“I guess I would be open to that,” Hudsinb said about being a judge on American Idol (via Distractify). “But girl, I am busy enough.” However, when it comes to Carrie Underwood, Hudson really likes the move. “I think it’s amazing that they will have her on there. I think it’s a great fit for her.”
For now, Jennifer Hudson fans will just have to accept her hosting her daytime talk show.
Kelly Clarkson Also Likes Carrie Underwood Joining American Idol
When Katy Perry left American Idol, fans theorized about who could replace her. Names of former Idol stars like Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson were brought up. Few believed Carrie Underwood would land the gig. Clarkson, a former The Voice coach, spoke up about the news.
Clarkson was on The Voice for several seasons and won a few of them with her singers. However, the first-ever American Idol champion wasn’t interested in returning to that show as a judge. Clarkson, though, loves Carrie Underwood in the role.
“I think that’s brilliant. Like what better person to have–somebody that’s won that show to come back,” she said. She also said that Carrie will inspire the next generation of singers, saying, “This isn’t lip service. I’ve been you literally, and this can happen, and it’s a lot of hard work.”
