What To Know
- Netflix made a stunning announcement on Monday that Gilmore Girls will be leaving the platform.
- The series has been a big part of the streamer’s library (including a spinoff) for nearly a dozen years.
Here’s a bit of cynicism to go with your coffee today: Netflix has announced it’s the end of an era for Stars Hollow lovers on the streamer. That’s right: Gilmore Girls is leaving Netflix at the end of this month after 12 years (and one revival) on the platform.
On Netflix’s official X (formerly Twitter) feed, the streamer shared, “It’s a show? It’s a lifestyle. It’s a religion. We are sorry to say that Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-7 will be leaving Netflix in the U.S. on June 30. Raising a cup of coffee to every fan who visited Stars Hollow with us.”

All seven seasons of the hit mother-daughter drama, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, have been on the streamer since 2014. Its placement on the platform gave renewed popularity to the cozy series and inspired the 2016 follow-up miniseries Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which gave fans answers about what became of Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham), Rory (Alexis Bledel), Emily (Kelly Bishop), Luke (Scott Patterson), and the rest of the Stars Hollow crew after the original series finale.
A Year in the Life is a Netflix Original series, which means it is not impacted by this removal news.
The good news for fans is that Gilmore Girls is available to stream outside of Netflix. It is also available to subscribers of Disney+ and Hulu.
Still, some Netflix subscribers who saw this news were pretty upset in the comments. “Lorelai Gilmore would have needed more than one cup for this,” wrote one fan in response. “This is a crisis. A major, ‘Luke storming out of the diner’ level crisis. Where am I supposed to go for my daily comfort binge now, Netflix?!” said another. A third quoted the series in their comeback, writing, “Oye with the poodles already, Netflix!! Put it back!”
