‘Golden Bachelor’ Preview Gives Bachelor Nation Fans ‘The Ick’

TV Shows

Bachelor Nation fans have been raving about The Golden Bachelor since its premiere, so what in the preview is giving fans ‘the ick’? Keep reading for all the details.

Golden Bachelor Off To A Fantastic Start

Bachelor Nation fans were both excited and skeptical when ABC teased a senior spinoff of The Bachelor franchise. It took over three years for the spinoff to hit the airwaves, but The Golden Bachelor is the unexpected hit of the fall TV season.

Gerry Turner, a 72-year-old widower, hopes to find a second chance at love, and his possible matches all qualify for a senior citizen discount, ranging in age from 60 to 75.

The ratings for The Golden Bachelor premiere topped the last few premieres of both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Former Bachelorette Gabby Windey is just one of the alums watching the spinoff.

The next episode of The Golden Bachelor is the highly-anticipated Hometown Dates when Turner will visit his three finalists at their homes and meet their families.

Only two women will get roses after the hometown dates, sending one woman home in tears.

Preview Of Hometowns Give Fans ‘The Ick’ – Why?

If Bachelor Nation fans are enjoying The Golden Bachelor so much, why are they upset about the preview of the hometown dates? Sure, some fans are upset that Theresa Nist was given a rose over Ellen Goltzer, but that’s not what’s causing their outrage.

Like Gerry Turner, his final three contestants have children and grandchildren. Typically, hometown dates on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette involve meeting the parents or siblings of the contestants.

But The Golden Bachelor preview for the hometown dates features several younger children, the grandchildren of his final three contestants.

Bachelor Nation fans took to Reddit to share how much they dislike involving young children in the show. “I find this extremely irresponsible,” a post began on the topic.

The post went on to complain that the adults should know better than to introduce someone who “will most likely disappear after the visit.”

Another person agreed, writing, “This gave me the ick when I saw it.”

One comment read, “Leave the little children out of it. Little children whose grandfather has passed away asking are you gonna be my new grandfather.”

However, not everyone found a problem with introducing the grandchildren to Turner.

One Redditor reasoned, “Tbh I really don’t think it’s that big of a deal. It’s not like it’s a potential mom or dad, it’s a grandparent. If they don’t end up together, the kids will prob forget about him within a month.”

Does Gerry Turner meeting the grandchildren give you ‘the ick’? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

The Golden Bachelor airs on Thursdays at 8 PM Eastern on ABC.
