After giving a twisty dramatization of the Natalia Grace case in its first season, Good American Family is coming back for a second season to focus on a new headline-making real-life event.
Yes, Hulu has renewed the series as an anthology project, and the next true-crime story to get the series’ unique lens is the Lorena Bobbitt case.

What will Good American Family Season 2 be about?
Per Variety, the series will turn its focus to the infamous Lorena Bobbitt case next. The logline for Season 2 reads, “A limited series inspired by the ripped-from-the-headlines story of Lorena and John Bobbitt, a Virginia couple who incited a media circus that treated trauma as entertainment, launched a thousand dirty jokes, and ignited a gender war.”
Who is Lorena Bobbitt?
Infamously, Lorena Bobbitt was accused of severing the penis of her husband, John Bobbitt, with a Ginsu knife while he was asleep and then accused him of sexual assault as her reason for doing so. Lorena then discarded of the severed member on the side of the road but later called the police to admit what she’d done and where authorities could find it; it was ultimately reattached in a successful surgery.
Both Bobbitts were accused and tried of their respective crimes, but John Bobbitt was acquitted of rape by a jury, and Lorena Bobbitt was found not guilty by reason of insanity. The two later divorced.
Has the Lorena Bobbitt story been depicted on screen before?
It certainly has. In 2019, Prime Video released a four-part docuseries from Jordan Peele about the incident, titled Lorena. Then, in 2020, Lifetime released the film I Was Lorena Bobbitt. The Bobbitts’ story has also inspired myriad songs, artistic installations, and other pop culture references.
Who will star in Good American Family Season 2?
The cast list for the next chapter in the series has not been revealed, but Variety reports that Ellen Pompeo will return as executive producer on the series (though she will not appear on screen). Season 1 producer Katie Robbins will also return for Season 2, and Lorena Bobbitt will reportedly serve as a consultant on the series.
